Over the past week or so I've landed on the Point more than any other station in my car listening. I get the impression they aren't ready to throw in the towel. They are sounding pretty good if you ask me. Yes, Mark Bell had more of an on air appeal to me than his replacement, but I'm commenting on programming. If their ratings rebound, it will be to their credit.
Now about Jack. I've been listening to the format mostly on WCBS-FM in New York. From a programming perspective, I like what I'm hearing. As most of you know by now, I love on air personalties too and that of course is missing.
I'm still thinking - if Jack were to come to Jax- who would do it? Let's eliminate Renda. Given all the posts here regarding KOOL- I think my conclusion is valid. Would Cox change the Point to Jack? There are many songs I hear on Jack that I hear on the Point so it would seem the total flip to Jack would enhance it's core audience as is. But at what cost to other Cox stations?
I'm beginning to think more and more that Clear Channel has more to gain if they were to try that format. Jack could affect Rock 105, the Point and to some extent the Eagle too. Something to think about. Anyone know if CC is really happy with Kiss FM and the fact that they have yet to beat WAPE? While many posts talk about Rooster flipping to something else, I've always thought a Jack flip on Kiss could really get things stirred up here.

John,

Point had another down month in April. The format change I said would come has not. The new PD could be there first to see if Point can be saved. If not Cox could change format. No Jack in Jax is my prediction. Cox isn't doing it anywhere I know of. Renda's doing a clinic on how not to put new stations on the air. Clear Channel should put KISS out of its misery but the people I talk to say the managers can't or won't give up on trying to beat APE.

> In reference to the two earlier posts, it's my observation that CC designed KISS in Jax to erode WAPE's ratings, not necessarily beat them - and to that extent, they have probably been successful.

I feel that if Cox were to dump the Point they would probably go with a Dove format like they have in Tampa. It's a ratings winner and it has strong female appeal which is something that lacks in their present lineup.

Regarding KISS, if you look at their 18-34 numbers specifically, they aren't really that far behind WAPE. Let's put it this way, they've made a significant dent in WAPE's target audience.

By keeping KISS on, CC keeps WAPE at bay against their other stations in the 18-34 demo such as WSOL and The Beat.
