The Point on Shuffle?

I went to St. Louis for the first time in a couple months today, and heard that KPNT is on shuffle until January 3. I know Howard Stern's shift to satellite left a void in the morning, and they have Rover lined up to fill that slot on the 3rd when he moves from Cleveland to Chicago.

But that doesn't explain being on shuffle 24/7. The jocks are apparently "on vacation" until the 3rd, and the PD is taking calls from listeners, seeking opinions about the playlist and whatnot. One oft-repeated liner said that the station will be better than ever when it goes off shuffle.

So what's the deal? Is there something more going on behind the scenes here? Is there a big on-air shake-up coming, or will things go back to normal on the 3rd?

Emmis' alternative Q101 in Chicago did so well "on shuffle," that they made that their permanent playlist. My guess is that KPNT goes back to normal when Rover signs on.

WMFS in Memphis is doing the same thing. Same Consultant?

Interesting how CBS Radio is using a Clear Channel concept..the ''on shuffle'' moniker has been used on CCU stations throughout 2005..

But the ''shuffle'' move is interesting since the Fall Ratings period concluded on the 15th in most markets..why try stunting now?

It's the hip thing to do now. In Kansas City, KYYS has a "shuffle weekend". KCFX has a "shuffle at 6". I assume it's a response to Jack-FM and Max-FM.<P ID="signature">______________
