the point to flip?

Whether or not our Favorite 106.9 The Point has a format change this week is any ones guess. My guess it will not sources inside would be talking if a plan was in the works. Then again when Hit96.5 was dumped one Friday night to become Energy 96.5 it was a secret even with in. The crew was pulled at 6pm & the rest well we know. The 101 to Mega was known on the inside several days prior the rumors were there from the insiders talking to the press. The 93q to Easy country not a secret at all! The country legends format may have been know i am not sure but was a wise move.

tic toc tic toc we wait and wait

hmmm.. what are they gonna flip to? ANOTHER Mexican or Urban station? Just what we need. NOT

We DO need a second URBAN AC station. Majic 102 needs some competition. However, I would take an Active Rocker. I'm not going to anticipate anything else with 106.9. It's a station that should have been killed 4 or 5 years ago. Cox, for some reason or another, is smitten with it. Until it ACTUALLY changes, I'm not going to get my hopes up.

I wouldnt count on Cox to flip anything look at how they ran down Z 1067 in San antonio, They still havnt even got any HD 2 channels up in San antonio.

Re: no HD channels in San Antonio

Not having any HD channels there sounds like a stroke of genius given the listener response HD has received overall!!!

EXCUSE ME..... There are numbering in the low 100's HD radios in civilian hands at this very moment!!!!!

is there a point to flip? what point is there in flipping? et al....

What is all the commotion about flipping? And what is all the dish about May 3rd, etc.? And why doesn't country legends have more jocks? Why are there liner cards anywhere....can't they just be used as an prop for basic info...but explain in the jocks' own words? Where are my twinkies? And my funions?
Luv,

If they dump "Country Legends" instead of "The Point" or K-Hits, they are the most clueless bunch of radio folks ever assembled. Country Oldies is the perfect format for that frequency. You're covering mostly rural parts of your listening area. You'd be extremely foolish in putting anything else on that frequency.

Snoman is right. It would be foolish to flip 97.1 to an Energy format. When I was at KKTL, we covered a great deal of east Texas, most of it very rural. Country has been the only format of many that have failed. When Country Legends 1st came on, it did well because it filled a much needed audience which wanted country oldies. It would do better today if it had more than just one air talent. Plus, in spite of what consultants say, I would increase the size of the playlist.

KTHT as a country station has fared much better than any of it's former formats.

I wasnt to impressed with Dallas's "moving" format, I like Jammin 105.9's format better than Dallas's moving. But the Lone star 92.5 sounded pretty good.

Stan:
Who are the artists that make up a 'Dance' format?
I for one can only conjure up images of Antonio Banderas moving about. Ah yes....visually smitten again. ;)
Which reminds me...regarding anything 'smitten'.....the 'Kiss' format...what is that?
Well, back to my text message with Antonio about Shrek 3 and margaritas.
Not necessarily in that order.
Ole.

Thanks Chuck for the back up. If they would at least hire a midday and an afternoon drive host, freshen up the liners and imaging and actually do something with the station, it would get better numbers. It's like a Country Gold I-Pod right now. I was hoping they would bring in Dan Gallo after he left KILT. He would be GREAT at doing that format. I would like to sit down with the Cox Management group here just to get a feel of what they're thinking, because it is quite obvious they are missing the big picture.

Here's what their thinking....... If it ain't broke don't fix it. The station is Tubbys baby and he has been given full control of it and he doesn't want anyone else in that studio. Your right it needs more, man. A live lunch hour all request show would be nice. I just might mention it to him.

I remember 4+ years ago when visiting Houston (before moving here), I remember they played stuff like The Waitresses, Culture Club, Dead or Alive, Taylor Dayne, Madonna, Bon Jovi, Poison, U2, etc. Now, all they seem to play is light classic rock and a handfull of 80s songs.

I'm not suggesting they play no Bon Jovi or U2 but between the 2 artists, there are 30+ 80s songs available.

I know I'm preaching to the choir but I remember the station being much better than it is now.

I actually liked the point when they first came on the air, because no other station played those songs and you hadn't heard them in a while. Then they just played the same old stuff over and again. They just fall in the ranks of every other radio station out there. Execs seem to say, "People want to hear the hits, that's why we play them." That may be true, but all of these artists that are played over and over on the radio have more hits than they will play. Granted the 80's was full of one-hit wonders, but many artists have more than just one hit. How many Skynard songs do you hear on classic rock stations? I would say maybe 2 or three different ones, the rest of their hits are like kryptonite to execs. I just don't get it. Yes, people want to hear the hits, No, people don't want to hear the same 1 or 2 hits over and over again for months.
