tennvol said:My biggest complaint about 93.1 is that they play the 'single' versions of songs instead of the versions I remember hearing when they were popular. A perfect example is GNR's November Rain. They cut it off before the driving part at the end, which drives me nuts. The whole reason for putting up with the sappy ballad at the beginning is to get to the good part at the end.
They do play that stuff. I have heard almost everyone of those artists in the past 7-10 days, plus Depeche Mode, Berlin, Soft Cell, etc.BRH said:If they are going to do an 80's format, why on earth don't they add other 80's content besides "mainstream rock" type stuff. What about rhythmic material like Madonna, New Edition, Prince, etc. But even more importantly, why don't they add more of the new wave/synthesizer type stuff that IS the 80's. I'm talking about stuff like Duran Duran, Kajagoogoo, ABC, Thompson Twins, Flock of Seagulls, Men Without Hats, Missing Persons, After the Fire, Dexy's Midnight Runners, Eddy Grant, Culture Club, etc. THAT is the type of 80's rock that I want to hear; not tired junk like Poison, Bon Jovi, and the other hairband and really mainstream rock stuff they play now.

that will cut into B97 and give JBG 3 of the top 5 stations

I agree. That's what I was mentioning in an earlier post. There is certainly a HUGE hole for a more current based AC format in Knoxville right now. "B97.5" is still leaning very gold (although I don't know why since their ratings are much lower than when they were more current based before Jarnigan returned). And we also have no Hot AC in the market either. I think either a Hot AC, or a Bright/Fresh mainstream AC (like "Fresh 102.7" New York, "Fresh 105.9" Chicago, and "Magic 94.9" Tampa) would be smart move. As I said, I would guess that Journal is afraid of hurting Star's numbers, although I think owning the entire female demos would be a good move (even if a share or so would be gleamed from Star). That would make Star, Hot, and a new Fresh AC a great combo buy for advertisers wanting to hit the female demos across the board.
Anyway, I would certainly welcome the move. I like Hot AC and current based mainstream AC and i absolutely HATE the direction that So. Central and Jarnigan have taken "B97.5" over the past year or so. I agree, there is a gaping hole in between Star and B97.5 that someone should fill.
