I was talking with someone a few weeks ago who brought up the idea of a Christian Rock station on 93.1. Has that idea been explored?

Geez, I hope not! That's just what East TN needs, yet another religious station.SoCentralChik1 said:I was talking with someone a few weeks ago who brought up the idea of a Christian Rock station on 93.1. Has that idea been explored?

Exactly the reason not to do it. There's not room for two such stations in a market this size. Why would you compete with a heritage station with a better signal, low spot(!!!!) load, and points for being a ministry instead of a mercenary comglomerate. Not that Tom Moffett isn't making a pretty penny with his non-comms.

BRH said:Personally, I wish they would go back to the Hot AC format they originally had when they first flipped to the "Point". But they are scared of cannibalizing Star's numbers. I also think a rhythmic AC (like "Movin") would be cool, but once again you get into the issue of hurting Star.
Obviously some form of AC is the biggest hole in the market, but as I said, steering away from Star is preventing them from addressing it. As much as I would personally hate it, country might be a good move. They could probably pull around a 4 or 5 share with it since 93.1 is a decent signal. (I don't really count WMYL as a factor because of their horrible signal). Sure, it would not touch 'IVK, but it would draw a couple of more shares. But as I said, I would personally hate it.
Another option might be some sort of rock format to go after 94.3 the X. 93.1 has a little bit better signal and could possibly carve out a hole there that wouldn't hurt Star.

AlbumOldies said:I don't know how anyone could stand to be a DJ at WIMZ. I'd go bananas playng the same crap over and over. I always thought it was a laugh to hear them say they had Knoxville's largest on-air library. They might have it, but they sure don't play it. I deleted them several months ago from the car radios in both vehicles. Who died and designated Aerosmith as the king of classic rock anyway?
My own personal take, and this may draw flames, is that WIMZ has a niche group of redneck listeners that is large enough to make a dent in the ratings. You cannot consider yourself a true rock and roll fan and get any satisfaction from listening to WIMZ. From John Boy and Billy in the mornings to the loud-mouth girl on in the evenings, it's just intolerable to me. I may be showing my age (51) or just lamenting over days gone by, but I even hate the term "classic rock."
