Hey, does anyone remembe the Power PIg 93 in Tampa? Especially the morning show hosts who raised funds to get the homeless "what they really want for Christmas?" Yeah, Alcohol! I heard that station when I visited Orlando in 1989, the last week in December. And on the New Year's weekend, I heard those guys sing a parody of Bobby McFerrin's song called "Don't Worry. Just Burp!" I still remember that time a lot!
The Power Pig/Power 93.3 WFLZ definately brought something to the Tampa Bay air-waves that the market was ready and willing to embrace in 1989. Market leader WRBQ had become stale and predictable and was "ripe for the pickens" to be dethroned in the Tampa Bay radio wars. WFLZ was to Tampa Bay as Real Radio 104.1 was to Orlando in the early years.
