The PROBLEM with FreeFM

The overwhelming majority of FM talk stations historically try to appeal to a younger demo to get their big ratings bonanza. The problem is that instead of trying to get the younger demos that LIKE talkradio, they try to get the younger demos that DO NOT listen to traditional talkradio by airing nonsense topics (why does Walt Sabo come to mind). Unfortunately the younger demos that don't normally listen to talkradio are so shallow and superficial that the only way to appeal to them is with nonsense talkradio on FM. The knife in the heart of this format is that these non-traditional talk listeners are small in number and are VERY FICKLE, just like the music radio listener. As a matter of fact, the music radio listener and the superficial talk listener are basically one in the same. THAT fact means FM talk, the way it has been engineered over the last 10 years, will never fly.

Are you complaining about Free FM or FM talk?
There is nothing in your post that specifically states anyting about FreeFM, just rant about FM talk. And there is no FreeFM in Boston.

And your comments don't realy relate specifically to Boston radio either. So why are you posting this here, just to rant? I think you should take your topic to the talk radio board. I think you'll bet more reponse there, imo.

Garrett: What is this, insult-day? I think the message is pretty clear. He mentions FreeFM in the SUBJECT LINE, and then talks about how most FM talkers try to lure younger listeners who would be less likely to listen to AM talk. Thats all.

Put the gun down Garrett. Relax!

> Yeah but look at the example in town of TKK. THey are not of that mold they're obviously not targeting younger demos they target the same upper demo with the same typical right wing guys that were not already locked up on RKO. Tkk while not a typical "fm talk" outlet by his definition is the only example avilable in town. As for FREE FM they're not targeting younger either, the demo is men 18-49 mostly. You're not going to get young guys with David Lee Roth that 1984 album was almost 22 years ago and Dave himself is 51? 52? same age as Howard.
Edited by NotoriousN-I-K on 12/28/05 12:56 AM.
