I just can't bear to listen to Premium Choice (especially here on Channel 945/Dayton)... here's why:
1. Music
The music is a serious issue. I understand you shouldn't take "risks" when focusing on a national level... blah blah blah but I think corporate radio forgets that listeners do get TIRED of hearing the same top 20 hits all the time. Premium Choice has expanded their library a LITTLE, but overall it's still the same crap. Same recurrents and golds. I think there's a problem with hearing Ride Wit Me two days in a row. Again, another reason why you shouldn't program CHR on a national level. CHR is a format that really needs callouts done to see what's working. Back when 945 was programmed by Ryan Drake, it was rhythmic-leaning and had the right mix for Dayton. The numbers were up too. They beat heritage, big signal Z-93 who eventually flipped.
2. Local Talent vs. National Talent
I'm not one of those guys that think everything national is bad... the problem I have with Prem Choice jocks is that there is NO INTERACTION WITH THE LISTENERS. It's such bull how they say, "Call me now, if ya can't get through find me on Twitter at ___." I mean, come on. Of course they can't get through... the phone is sent to busy signal. They have the Interactive 9 @ 9 but we all know that's probably researched out the ass. I know the HD-2 channels for CC are programmed weeks at a time. Makes me wonder if Premium Choice does this too. I like Dial-Global's formats. At least there they give a toll-free number to call-in and may even be live sometimes. Not to mention, they're much more new-music focused.
3. Imaging
Okay... I understand this isn't Z100 NYC but could the imaging be any worse? "All the hits... and nothing but the hits. CHANNEL 945!" There's those and, "Hit this. Channel 945." I mean... it's generic... straight to the point but what gets me is the music promos that don't get updated for MONTHS. Hotel Room Service, Don't Trust Me, I Do Not Hook Up are RECURRENTS. Those promos just now left rotation after being in there since last year. You would think with the amount of production and dry elements they have at CC that they'd spend a little more time making sure their stations at least sound good.
I assume the reason PC enters the market is lack of ratings/webhits or just a small market. It's sad. I hear even though it's CHOICE, the PD/GM's have no control over it anyway. I miss my old 945!
Those are just a few reasons... I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts.
