The Professor critiques The Upper Valley

You have all been waiting so here we go! I'll take it by cluster. And note this is the REAL Upper Valley...no Rutland included.

Nassau
Q106. Now playing rock...not just classic rock. Imus is back and that's probably a good thing for them. The rest of the day is quite uninspired. (yawn)
The Wolf. Down in the last book but I don't know why. very consistent and good movement. Music is on and sweeper sound good. Has Doug screwed up something I don't know about?
Oldies 104.3. Still solid and doing what they do well. Shep in AM Drive and Ken in PM drive both are true to the format. the rest of the VT dayparts are okay. I'd like to see them do more on the weekends.

Great Eastern
KIXX. Seems to have woken up from the long CC slumber. Sounds the best it has in a long time. I do like Tracy and Paul in the morning. He has stopped laughing too much. The rest of the day is good and I think it's being more local than The Wolf. More heritage obviously.
93.9 The Pulse. Thank God the Morning Buzz is back. other than that htis station is a complete disaster. Blow it up.
92.3 WGXL. This station is now a true AC and sounds decent. the morning show needs lots of work but the rest of the day is very consistent. I think you'll see it continue to gain. More targeted than WJJR.

Dartmouth
WFRD. Heath and the boys had a huge book. Thanks mostly to 93.9/101.7 dropping rock. I predict you'll see mr. G lose some of that morning drive number with the Morning Buzz back in the market. If someone else in the market went back to rock this station would again flounder but for now...they'll drop some but still show decently.

The Vinekoor Group.
Almost a non-player but not quite. Dorien jaye is on in the mornings. Doesn't he need a real radio station? The rest of the day is nmostly 2nd rate talk. No threat to anyone now or in the future.

The AM Band.
All are just taking up space. WNHV/WTSV ESPN sports simulcast is there. WTSL talk is there.

The market sounds better now than it did a year ago. mostly thanks to CC getting out and Great Eastern coming in and paying some attention. Nassau now has some competition. I predict KIXX will continue strong. Q106 and Oldies will be players. WGXL will keep gaining. The Wolf will flounder. WFRD will lose because AM Drive will fall. 93.9 will do okay in AM Drive and the rest of the day will be missing in action.

Take it to the bank!

I guess I am talking to cows up here in the Northeast Kingdom ;)
Professor, I am sure i am asking for a lot of trouble here but do you have any reviews on NEK radio
thanks

Oh wise and gracious Professor! What is your assessment of Pamal? I am looking forward to your fair and honest analysis.

Thank you!

Patience...patience! Rutland will be next but The Professor must have some time in between to analyze and organize his thoughts. You won't have to wait too long!

Hey Prof, how about we make it nice and easy for you. Here is the critique of Pamal Rutland:
inept
adjective
Not suited to circumstances: improper, inappropriate, inapt, incongruous, malapropos, unapt, unbecoming, unbefitting, unfit, unseemly, unsuitable. Idiom: out of place. See agree, usual
Characterized by inappropriateness and gracelessness, especially in expression: awkward, ill-chosen, inappropriate, infelicitous, unfortunate, unhappy. See ability, good
Lacking the qualities, as efficiency or skill, required to produce desired results: inapt, incapable, incompetent, inefficient, inexpert, unskilled, unskillful, unworkmanlike. See ability
Clumsily lacking in the ability to do or perform: awkward, bumbling, clumsy, gauche, heavy-handed, maladroit, unskillful. See ability
Lacking dexterity and grace in physical movement: awkward, clumsy, gawky, graceless, lumpish, maladroit, ungainly, ungraceful. Slang: klutzy. Idiom: all thumbs. See ability

Any questions?

You did leave out one. . .1340-WDCR Hanover. . .stopped a full simulcast of 99-Rock. . .Instead using the slogan "Dartmouth's Classic Rock" lots of music, decent variety, and they seem to be adding to the playlist. Also, home to all Dartmouth sports games.

Sounds like the Prof has been busy on the island adjusting the tuner and the banana hammock! I'm not sure why we are blowing so much smoke up Great Eastern Radios' %$#@! They couldn't program their way out of a wet paper bag. Too bad really, you would think they could sell anything. After all, isn't that there motto!?

Aside from Kixx, the rest of the group sounds like &^%$! Now what's up with GXL mornings?? YUCK and YAWN! Terrible would be putting it nicely. What happened to the former show, seemed to have good numbers in the fall. Oh, well...GER programming changes monthly. So we can just set back, not tune in, then maybe they'll dump these two bone-heads and hire some more unqualified personnel at the next job fair they host.

Anybody hear what Greg Fennel's up too? Poor guy should have checked his Horoscope before getting pulled into that 'toilet bowl' of a company.

Let's just hope in 4 years when Jeffy flushes them to another foolish company like Nassau the staff can find their way out of the muddy waters...

So, let me get this straight;

You can all lob grenades at each other about music, sweepers, etc., but when it comes to the real question about who's actually getting it done in the pocketbook, nobody has a clue.

I get that good programming matters. But, if it doesn't translate to revenue, then it won't be around for long.

Thoughts anyone?

I'm with you Toni. This high school, oh wait, Jr. high mentality sure gets old.

Who comes out on top are the folks with the fattest checkbook.
I want to be the one "driving the most expensive car on our lot!!!"
;D

Greg Fennel is the man, great guy, hard worker, what ever he does he'll be fine. Good to hear he's still writting at the Snews, the man knows his sports.
