The Programming Disputes Thread

http://www.wmcactionnews5.com/story/32564503/editorial-attention-dish-subscribers

Update WMC and WSFA are in a contract dispute with Dish Network. how the hell could there be thousands of complaints by Dish Network sent to the BBB and Consumer affairs and yet they are still in business.
Im not shocked at this point about TV station owners and Network owners suing Dish and Customers suing Dish on various consumer and business complaints.

Even employees of Dish has questioned tactics of Charlie Ergden and his tactics.

This morning was a head-scratcher with WTIC-TV (FOX) channel 61 of Hartford:

On a pre-recorded segment inserted into their Saturday morning news, sports reporter Bob Rumbold mentions their dispute involving "parent company Tribune Broadcasting" and Dish Network. The teams one might not see on the screen next to him? Logos of the Yankees, Red Sox, football Giants and Patriots. Two things that make this odd...

1- Their sister stations, WCCT-TV (CW) channel 20 of Waterbury/Hartford and WPIX-TV (CW) channel 11 of New York City, both air select New York Mets baseball games. The Mets and football Jets were never mentioned.

2- Can't most people get channel 20 and 61 over the air for free? (And maybe channel 11 in other parts of Connecticut?)

If Dish Network is this problematic with near-constant local channel disputes, why do people still sign up for their service? I don't get it!

I think Dish Network's low prices draw people in

Actually, I believe that Dish Network customers tend to be those who
feel that losing any one or two particular station is acceptable. They
are willing to forfeit some stations for a lower overall price. Directv
customers, on the other hand, are those that "gotta have" a certain
channel or two and are willing to pay extra for that. How do I know
that??? I install OTA antennas. I always ask potential customers if they
cannot live without a certain channel or two.

This article might back some of the things some Dish Network people agree with. Also I seen ones that say Dish CEO has a dictator complex in one article when it came to contract disputes.

Not my relatives. They were livid at Dish Network during "The Great Fisher Dispute of 2009." They lost KIMA/CBS Yakima for six months...and they had to go buy an indoor antenna to keep watching local news and CBS shows!

NFL Network, RedZone return for Dish TV customers after disappearing for nearly 50 days ;)

Dish Network has a new “multi-year agreement with NFL Network for carriage of NFL Network and RedZone” channels, the company said in a statement e-mailed to The Denver Post on Tuesday evening.

“The channels were restored to DISH’s channel lineup earlier this evening,” said Dish spokesperson Courtney Culpepper.

The two channels vanished from the satellite TV provider’s lineup at 5 p.m. June 16. The companies did not share details on what led the NFL Network to pull its channels from Dish.

Sinclair and Comcast Reach Retrans Deal

Sinclair Broadcast Group said today that it has entered into a multi-year agreement with Comcast Cable for the carriage of Sinclair’s television stations. “We are pleased to announce that we were able to come to an agreement with Comcast, the largest cable provider in the country,” said Barry Faber, Sinclair’s general counsel. “While we are not permitted to disclose the financial terms of the new agreement, we are pleased with the value received, which reflects the importance of our programming to Comcast subscribers.”
