The Programming Disputes Thread

The Merideth owned stations are going to be dropped from DISH Network on Monday July 15th if a deal isn't reached.

In Hartford, CT it's WFSB Channel 3 CBS.

In Springfield, Mass....well it's ABC, FOX, and CBS. ABC is WGGB Channel 40.1 (ABC 40) (FOX 6) FOX is WGGB Channel 40.2 and CBS is WSHM-LD (CBS 3). Low-power stations and sub-channels don't count towards ownership caps, so that's how Merideth can own ABC, FOX, and CBS in the same market.

Greed time again..So corrupt...Just seen the declaimer scroll on the bottom of the screen on tonight's"sat nights ET on 3. Is the Sat companies collecting broadcast TV fees like regular cable TV companies to cover this BS...Maybe the stations start jacking up the adverts fees to cover their content rights fees and other costs and stop ripping off their viewers. The best thing to do is shut the damn TV set off. They will all close up shop and go to the unemployment line...Sorry to say that.I'm just fed up with it....

Has Nexstar in other parts of the country told people that they can get around the AT&T dispute by paying Nexstar directly via a subscription to KRON-ON (The Nexstar version of Local CBSN). Yes at least in San Francisco Nexstar has used this promotion of advertising the KRON-ON streaming outlet to get people around the AT&T/Nexstar dispute. I'm not sure for now if other Nexstar stations around the nation has plans to start their local editions of KRON-ON though.

Ridiculous. Did I say there will be more cable channels on DIRECTV than locals in the near future? Watch Sinclair probably be the next one to dispute.
But as for CBS vs. AT&T, bye bye WCBS/KCBS/WBBM/KTVT/KSTW/etc etc if they don't make a deal - which they likely won't. Look at Nexstar, Northwest (6 MONTHS WITHOUT KFFX!!!), etc etc.

AT&T's not having a great year with disputes and it just gets worse, now CBS is entering a dispute with them and both sides are already got their dispute propaganda he said/she said sites up.

THat's crazy though given that CBS is waiting for the pending Viacom deal and that will make the dispute even worse. In San Francisco you get both a CW affiliate owned by CBS KBCW, CBS O&O KPIX and Nexstar owned KRON getting blocked due to the dispute. Hartford, CT is in a similar situation where the Meredith Owned station and the Nexstar Owned station are in a dispute with AT&T. In Solano County, CA it gets CBS and CW affiliates from both Sacramento and San Francisco depending on which side of the county you are in Solano-W gets KPIX and KBCW, Solano-E gets KOVR and KMAX .

Wonder if some of the retrans negotiation team from Time Warner went to AT&T

more likely AT&T is in budget cut mode as they have taken a lot of debt when they bought out Time Warner. and they also took in DirecTV's debt too. they are trying to prevent themselves from going bankrupt.

moral of the story, don't buyout companies when your company faces debt so high, they would put 'em out of business. this is the beginning of AT&T's second downfall.

For the Springfield, MA television market, this is a lose-lose. CBS, ABC, and FOX are all blacked out on Dish, while NBC and CW are blacked out on DirecTV. Even worse, there are still a few towns in western MA where cable isn't available.

A win for YouTube TV for those who have internet access.

I know this mess probably happens every Summer before the NFL and Fall TV seasons start, but this year seems to be the worst yet with Dish and DirecTV. I think it's past time for congress to step in and change the laws to put a stop to a lot of this garbage. The least they could do is require systems to provide an alternate channel when there is a blackout.

A win for Hulu Live too and PlayStation Vue too. https://www.hulu.com/live-tv

Yes YouTube TV did get lots of attention in San Francisco area because of the the NBA Finals recently. But there are two others internet/app TV providers we got to mention here.

One thing to mention though let's not look at these three internet TV providers as a panacea for now to the contract dispute issue. All one has to do is look at the recent YouTube/Amazon fire dispute where there was no YouTube app on Amazon fire TV's for some time though until recently.

Is Nexstar considering providing an outlet like KRON-ON in your Area. I know KRON San Francisco has been doing ads for KRON-ON in the mist of the AT&T/Nexstar Dispute

In San Francisco and Sacramento the this whole CBS/AT&T Dispute has to be a PR Ploy to get more viewers of CBS Programming over to All Access and app outlets like CBS Local, CBS Sports and CBSN. But with the Viacom Deal pending more outlets might get removed if the AT&T dispute is not resolved though.
