The Programming Disputes Thread

That would be 197 stations gone at the switch of a button. Including big ones like KTLA.

YIKES!

In Portland, KOIN and KRCW would go bye bye (no CBS, no CW). However, Q13/JOE TV in Seattle are fine as the Fox O&O operation was finalized earlier this year.

Chappelle show removed from Netflix due to royalties issues

You might have noticed that Chappelle's Show is no longer on Netflix. There's a pretty good reason for that.

In an 18-minute video posted to Instagram (one of only four posts to his account), comedian Dave Chappelle explains why the seminal comedy show was removed from Netflix. But you have to want it. The full video is very much worth watching. It starts off with Chappelle telling a story about how he lent someone a joke and dude refused to return it, telling a 15-year-old Chappelle it just wasn't going to happen.

Chappelle continues with a story about Three-Card Monte and how he lost money while everyone at the game was yelling and cheering him on. He realized those people were all the dealer's friends. And when Chappelle tried to warn the next mark about the game, the dealer grabbed Chappelle and finally told him "Young man, don't ever get between a man and his meal."

TEGNA now entering a new dispute with DirecTV, the TEGNA contract for carriage expires at 8 PM ET on Monday.

Sacramento, San Diego, and Portland are some of the markets around the nation that will be hit hard by both the Dish/Nexstar dispute and the AT&T/Tegna dispute given that these cities have a Tegna station competing against a Nexstar Owned station for viewers.

https://tvanswerman.com/2020/11/29/...0-channels-this-week-the-customers-speak-out/

According to TV Answerman 220 local tv stations will be removed this week for separate reasons.

One the Dish Nexstar/ Dispute and the other the AT&T/Tegna Dispute.

If you live in San Diego, Sacramento, Portland, Hartford CT, Denver and many more affected because your area has a Tegna station competing against Nexstar for Local news you are directly getting hit the hardest.

Dish also doesn't have a deal with Mission Nexstar's shell as well, which there out ABC in Lansing as Mission just bought that TV station from Shield along with CW as well and now CBS on Wed, I have seen the stroll while watching Wood, WOTV & WXSP, I haven't seen TEGNA and AT&T as I don't really watch WZZM. The good thing in this area has 2 ABC's Dish viewers can watch ABC on WZZM and AT&T can watch WOTV for ABC if neither can reach a deal.

Nexstar has also issued a statement on the dispute and accuse Dish for other disputes they were in and yes this includes Mission Broadcasting a group that holds TV broadcasting licenses and LMA agreements to some of the Nexstar stations.

“Since July, Nexstar has been negotiating tirelessly and in good faith in an attempt to reach a mutually agreeable multi-year contract with Dish, offering Dish the same fair market rates it offered to other large distribution partners with whom it completed successful negotiations in 2019 and 2020,” Nexstar said in the release. The satellite TV company, Nexstar claims, has instead countered those offers by proposing rates that go “significantly backward” and by threatening to drop Nexstar’s cable channel, WGN America.

Nexstar also pointed out Dish’s past retrans and carriage scuffles, adding that in 2020 alone, the company has dropped network or local community programming from The E.W. Scripps Co., Cox Media Group, Mission Broadcasting, and the NFL Network. In contrast, Nexstar pointed to its recent carriage deals, adding that in October alone it had reached agreements with nearly 200 distribution partners and that since purchasing Tribune Media in September 2019, it has completed agreements with distributors covering more than half of its U.S. footprint.

WREG CBS 3 in Memphis was running messages for customers to call Dish. If it happens this dispute will affect WJKT Fox 16 in Jackson, TN as well. If the dispute between DirecTV and Tegna isn't settled it will affect WATN ABC 24 and WLMT CW 30 in Memphis. As long as they keep up these tactics I will NEVER subscribe to Dish or DirecTV.

I am surprised no one has commented on this! 12 is the worst of the network stations, has the crappiest over air reception and their newscasts are awful. You would think they would beg every satellite and cable provider to include them since their reception stinks so bad.

All Tegna stations are off DirecTV. This has nothing directly to do with Channel 12.

I wonder if this becomes a breaking point with 2 major companies blocking out the country.
I say streaming will accelerate for at least for Hulu, ESPN+,Disney+, Peacock, Paramount+, and others but I am not so sure for Tegna, Nexstar, Sinclair, Scripps, Hearst, Gray, News Press Gazette, Meredith and how they would respond to adapting to the streaming age.

I know Nexstar at least in San Francisco has promoted KRON-ON their streaming news outlet in the past to get Bay Area viewers to go around disputes but in other places Nexstar may not be pushing this as much due to how Nexstar has affiliation deals with Fox, NBC, ABC, CBS and CW for now though.

But expecting me to switch providers(as their website suggests) just to get a pathetic station like 12 is a non starter!!!!
Do you know what Locust is? If not, maybe check it out...it's a non-profit that gives people access to broadcast television stations over the internet.

Home - Locast or get the app 👍
