The Programming Disputes Thread

Dish Network will be in a Dispute with Lilly Broadcasting. Yes its crazy because it is taking place as the Nexstar Dispute is taking place. KITV Hawaii specifically is waiting for approval to go to Allen Media as of December 2020.

Dish and Cox has ended their dispute.

Update Roku is in a dispute with Spectrum TV. Yes even in internet connected TV's there are disputes too like cable.

Roku has removed Charter’s Spectrum TV app from its Channel Store in the latest carriage dispute involving the streaming device maker.

The app, which allows Charter’s Spectrum subscribers to watch live TV and On Demand programming, is still available for Roku owners who have previously downloaded it. However, you can no longer download it from the Roku Channel Store, and if you uninstall it from your Roku menu, you will not be able to replace it.

“The Spectrum TV app has been removed from the Roku Channel Store. Visit Spectrum.net/roku for details, including how to access Spectrum TV on other streaming devices,” Charter says at its web site. The cable operator’s app is still available on Apple TV, Samsung Smart TVs, the Xbox, smartphones and tablets.

In the article it said that the Spectrum app has been removed from being available for download, but that subscribers who already have it won't be cut off (yet).

It really doesn't make sense to me why that Spectrum would want to get in a dispute like this because they've just recently gone to offering their entire channel lineup through streaming devices without requiring a tuner box. I had just changed to doing this and am running all my TVs off of Rokus, except for having one Apple TV box that is coming through Spectrum. And they also made a good retention deal to keep the price low enough for the next year that it isn't worth it for me to go to a streaming service like You Tube TV or Hulu. So my cord cutting plans are on hold for the time being.

Nexstar goes after Dish in an attack ad.
From the article:

"The spot (Nexstar) claims that Dish’s CEO has a habit of blacking out stations and networks, and that it makes money when it does. "

Dish at last report claims it has about 9 million subscribers. Nexstar is claiming it covers 39% of the US population. That's about 3.6 million subs affected. I don't know the retrans fee per sub, but I'm guessing it's somewhere around $1.50/month.

Assuming those numbers, that's about $5.4 million saved per month. Suspect Dish mgmt. figures that only a small percentage will actually bother to complain. That's a rather cynical approach to boosting profits.

I've been amused by Nexstar's dispute ad with Dish, which is running on my local Nexstar stations and which RadioPatrol linked above.

Why would I, a viewer in market 100+, care if KWDR in Denver or KTLA in Los Angeles is available to Dish network customers?

Roku in a dispute with Spectrum. Yes TV Disputes also happen on the streaming side too.
