The Programming Disputes Thread

YoutubeTV to have a carriage dispute with Disney. This affects Disney owned ABC affiliates (KABC, WABC, KGO, WLS, KFSN, WPVI, KTRK and WTVD), FX, ESPN, and Disney Channel.

YouTube TV’s carriage deal with The Walt Disney Co. expires Friday, and YouTube TV said that if a blackout occurs, it will give subscribers a $15 price cut while content such as Grey's Anatomy and SportsCenter is unavailable.

Disney began warning YouTube TV subscribers of a potential blackout Monday. The currency agreement expires Friday at 11:49 p.m. ET and covers ABC’s stations, the ESPN networks, the Disney channels, the FX networks, National Geographic channels and Freeform.

“Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution has a highly successful track record of negotiating such agreements with providers of all types and sizes across the country and is committed to working with Google to reach a fair, market-based agreement,” Disney said in a statement. “We are optimistic that we can reach a deal and continue to provide their YouTube TV customers with our live sporting events and news coverage plus kids, family and general entertainment programming.”

ESPN and the other Disney networks were shut off by YouTube TV and removed from their channel guide at 9:55 PM MST. Not only that, so was Scripps-owned KNXV, despite their airing local news at this time. Ironically, sister-station KASW has not been turned off. It never airs ABC programming, but is still a Scripps station.

I would guess that Scripps' and Google's lawyers are having a conversation right now. This has to be a contract violation, and KNXV is not an ABC O&O.

LMAO so many people on social media claimed to jump ship over to Hulu and FuboTV yesterday hopefully they remember to cancel their 7-day free trials.
Probably only to find out that Disney will get into a programming dispute with FuboTV next. 🤣 (Hulu is onwed by Disney, and hence no program dispute :) but otherwise, it still not worth the switch from YouTube TV. $70 for Hulu vs $65 for YT w/Disney enterprise vs $50 for YT w/out Disney.

It is so hilariously messed up that we shuffle around between cable companies in the 90's and 2000's, and then Satellite companies in the 10's, and finally streaming in the 20's. I'm ready to cut my losses if that means I get the more reasonable price.

Is Dish still investing in their satellite TV service? I’m sure they’d be better off shutting it down and redirecting existing satellite subscribers over to Sling.

The main reason people originally used Dish was because they were in locales where there was no cable service. While I certainly see plenty of satellite dishes in suburban or urban settings, Dish would surely be cutting off millions of customers who have no means to receive Sling or a similar service.

There are plenty of areas with poor internet speeds available...even in the suburbs

The house I use to live in STILL can only get 1.5MB download through Centurylink

Great! You qualify for up to 1.5 Mbps with unlimited data.
This is the speed with the best offer at your address!

yet my mom's house 3 blocks away can get fibre and 940MB download. Heck they can get 100MB for $30 whereas the 1.5 download is $50
