The Programming Disputes Thread

Standard General is named in a dispute with Dish.

Paducah Television Operations, a subsidiary of Standard General, said its four stations have been blacked out to Dish Network subscribers in a dispute over retransmission consent fees.

Paducah Television, based in Providence, operates stations, in Lincoln, Nebraska, Cape Girardeau, Missouri and Providence, Rhode Island and does business as Standard Media, said Dish refused offers from Standard Media and was insisting on significant rate reductions.

Standard General has agreed to buy Tegna, but the deal is in the middle of a lengthy review by the FCC. Among the deal's opponents are cable operators concerned that Standard General will try to raise retransmission fees.

The Walt Disney Co.’s stations and cable networks were briefly backed out by Dish, but the two companies quickly came to a settlement last month. Dish is among the distributors most likely to be involved in a fee dispute when distribution deals expire.

I thought that DirecTV added Fox Weather earlier this year. Should've waited to add it when they got a deal with Fox DirecTV is becoming like Dish channels going dark.

Here is one on the Fox dispute with DirecTV. I know recently Fox has been pushing Tubi app for the World Cup coverage on Fox Sports. Also the Fox News fans out there are watching Fox Nation app for their audiences.

Cox is named in a dispute with Dish.

Cox Media Group stations in nine markets have been blacked out to Dish TV subscribers because of a retransmission fee dispute, effective Monday.

Dish said that one issue is Dish is allowing subscribers to opt out of local stations as part of their pay-TV service. Dish says Cox wants Dish to pay fees for those customers.

Dish also said that Cox is looking for an "exorbitant rate increase," and is negotiating for stations it doesn’t own yet.

The dispute affects Cox stations in Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Dayton, Eugene, Jacksonville, Orlando, Pittsburgh and Seattle. Cox Media Group is controlled by Apollo Global Management.

Here is my thing.

The reason PBS, religious network and educational/religious independent stations don't get involve in cable/satellite TV disputes is because they make money from viewer education, pledge drives, and donations so that they pay the providers to keep their channels on the channel list.

Am I right?

Noncommercial and religious TV stations usually get on cable by "must carry ".

Ok then Tegna and Standard Media names dropped in the Cox/Dish Dispute.

Dish Network, responding to Cox Media Group demands that it retract false statements about their retransmission-consent dispute, doubled down on blaming CMG for a blackout that continues.

“Cox Media Group’s statements regarding its negotiations with Dish Network and requests for contract extensions are misleading at best,” Dish said in a statement.

The dispute has blacked out stations in nine markets. If it continues into the weekend, viewers will miss high-profile programming including key college football and NFL games.

Another retransmission dispute is also approaching a deadline with the agreement between Fox and DirecTV expiring Friday at midnight Pacific Time. Fox has been warning viewers that a blackout is possible.

Dish maintains that Cox, controlled by Apollo Global Management, has delayed “meaningful discussions” because it wants stations currently owned by Standard General and Tegna to be included because of connections to Apollo.

update on DirecTV's Dispute with Fox, since i have DirecTV, i can confirm DirecTV has the "takedown warning slate channels up", and the channels are still on as it turned out, Fox poorly worded their expiration day, they claim they expired at 12 AM PT on December 2 when they meant 11:59:59 PM December 2 and the dispute goes into effect at 12 AM PT on December 3rd. it made me happy to know i wasn't gonna miss this week's SmackDown which was gonna air on FS1 due to the Pac 12 Championship game on Fox. next week, if KDFW Fox 4 (a Fox O&O) is still blacked out if no deal is reached by next Friday, i will watch SmackDown via TV Antenna version of KDFW Fox 4 instead but will miss out on the DVR features for when i miss something.

Fox and DirecTV have reached a new deal:

yes it does.
DIRECTV yesterday signed a new multi-year carriage agreement with Fox that allows it to continue carrying FS1, FS2, the Big Ten Network, Fox Deportes, and Fox Soccer Plus as well as Fox-owned network affiliates in 18 markets.

Its the Mission Broadcasting stations that were being talked about in that article
DIRECTV has been without 25 Mission Broadcasting-owned local stations (including 12 Fox affiliates) since October 21 when the two sides could not reach a new carriage deal.

The wording of the article confused me. My bad.

yep, Joey1986's hometown Fox affiliate is a Mission Broadcasting station and that dispute is still ongoing while my local hometown Fox station KDFW is Fox O&O and thus was impacted by the Fox dispute that was resolved without a blackout.

i wonder if Fox was the ones that caved as they have the World Cup and this dispute fell in the middle of the World Cup.

I’m in L.A., and my Fox station, KTTV, is actually an O&O. I don’t have DirecTV, so I wouldn’t know for sure. My uncle has DirecTV, so I’ll probably check with him.

I just got a notice from Verizon Fios that their contract with Cox Media General runs out on the 15th. Here’s what it reads.

We are committed to providing customers with the best value in entertainment. When content deals expire, we have to renegotiate with content providers to continue to offer their programming.

Our contract with Cox Media Group (CMG), owners of channels WFXT FOX in Boston and Rhode Island, WPXI NBC in Pittsburgh, and PCNC (Pittsburgh Cable News Channel) in Pittsburgh, ends on December 15, 2022. Your Fios TV package contains their programs.

We are working hard to negotiate with them to reach a new agreement. However, CMG has proposed charging significantly more for its programming. Verizon remains committed to making these channels available to our customers, but simply cannot agree to such unreasonable increases.

For a full list of channels affected and updates, visit verizon.com/coxmediagroup.

Thanks for choosing Verizon.
