DIRECTV likely to lose Scripps-owned stations as contract expiration nears
May 28, 2026 - DIRECTV is set to lose dozens of local TV stations owned by the E. W. Scripps Company at the end of the month.
EW Scripps in a dispute with Directv.
What's the latest on the Scripps/DIRECTV standoff? I missed out on the Stanley Cup finals because of this. Will it be resolved by February 2027 when ESPN brings us the Super Bowl? Or is streaming enough of a factor to hold off the resolution?![]()

Still ongoing. The dispute with Xfinity lasted more than a month, so this may stretch out. A lot at stake for both sides. What's the latest on the Scripps/DIRECTV standoff? DirecTV in Nashville might be interesting in a couple of days, we already have the CBS affiliate blacked out, but its sister station due to be the next Scripps "Spot" indie might get added to the lineup and be blacked out at the same time due to the dispute, or both will be viewable on DirecTV on Monday if things get settled.Still ongoing. Providers are very reluctant to do that, and local stations don't like it. It probably violates some terms of exclusivity in carriage contracts. For some reason DirecTV in Phoenix has KGUN9 (also Scripps-owned) on its EPG..but it is blacked out.
How hard would it be to bring in another ABC station onto DirecTV to temporarily replace the Scripps-owned station? There is an ABC station in Yuma. Or even KABC from LA.
Legally they can't. The only time Directv can give you an out of market station is if there is not one licensed to the market. As example my market (Mankato, MN) we only have CBS, NBC and FOX in the market. So Dish and DIrectv are allowed to give us KSTP Minneapolis for the ABC. When Directv had an issue with Gray TV recently that was the only local (besides the national PBS) that subs got as Gray owns CBS, FOX and NBC in marketHow hard would it be to bring in another ABC station onto DirecTV to temporarily replace the Scripps-owned station?
