The proper pronounciation is "Ta-RENT-um"

Boss:
I'm willing to give these out of town hosts time to settle in and learn the area. They have alot on their plates right now with having to move to a new market during a horrible winter and get up to speed with the local sports scene AND the names of our towns. Some of my favorite local personalities are/were not from the area. (Savran,Starkey & Hoerth), just to name a few. However, if this isn't corrected soon, "The Fan" in my opinion will face a serious credibility issue.

In all honesty, I've listened to this guy for no more than 10 minutes each night. I only turn his show on to hear him butcher the names of our towns, not because his show is so strong. I don't think this qualifies me as a loyal listener to his show.

If you're talking about Greg Gianotti, who is on from 6-10P, I think you're letting little stuff blind you to the fact that he's pretty talented for a 23-year-old kid hosting his first show. I hear tons of potential there.

Parttimer:
I'm not questioning his ability and/or potential. I wish him nothing but the best. Perhaps my criticism is misplaced. Maybe I should be blaming station management for not preparing him better. It is just a bit disconcerting for someone like me who has lived in Pittsburgh for most of my life to hear these town names get butchered.

Yes, it's annoying. The update girl Kalena Bell butchered Kent Tekulve's last name too.

But they hit the air 4 days ago with a totally new product. All in all it sounds pretty good. Music stations take months to get to a finished product sometimes, but that's not an option with this format (at least not if you're going live & local 24/7). I'm not sure about Vinnie middays but beyond that there's some good stuff. Making these mistakes in the first few days does not translate into a "serious credibility problem."

A host in Florida recently said that the Glazer family was going to sell the Tampa Bay Bucs because of financial problems. It was totally untrue. That's a serious credibility problem.

In the end, whether the station wins or loses will rest on whether the hosts know sports and are entertaining.

P4L:
In terms of baseball announcers: I have great memories of Curt Gowdy, Tony Kubek and Joe Garagiola on the NBC game of the week when I was young. Bob Prince of course. Present day would have to be Bob Walk. A major talent who deserves better than the Pirates.
Parttimer:
Do you recall who the broadcaster was who gave the false info about the Glazers? I used to live in Tampa and was wondering if it was a host in that market.
Finally, I listened to much of the Seibel and Starkey show on the fan today and was impressed. John Seibel gives the show some cred from his work on ESPN and I am a big fan of Joe Starkey. "The Drivel", er, "The Drive" is in big trouble if Seibel and Starkey continue to improve which I am sure they will as they build a rapport with one another.

Stick a fork in The Drive, S & S blows them away. Sure wish Scott Paulsen could find the right fit for his talents. He's bounced around so much the last 10 years.

I think The Fan will do well. The first day I was on the road and 5 miles outside of Cranberry Stan & Guy faded out. It was 93.7 from then on. That has to be a BIG plus.

Dan Sileo was the radio host that said that the Glazers would be selling the Bucs after losing money with Bernie Madoff. The Glazers denied both that they were selling the team and that they had ever invested with Madoff.

Check out her photo on the website. I doubt she'll be getting many complaints.
Not even from Teke!

The above poster is correct, it was Dan Sileo. He now originates from Orlando and is simulcast on 620 in Tampa.

After listening to the Fan for most of the week,I'm getting the impression that they are taking the Roger Ailles/Fox news approach. Sounds like they are given a script of topics that they are to stick to. With experienced hosts like Vinnie/Cook, and Seibel/Starkey, they can do that and still talk about other topics. With a lesser experienced host like Linelli, he's hanging on to the script for dear life. Today's mandate evidently was "Thou Shall Discuss Tiger Woods".
