'The Pursuit of Happiness' hosts on WBAI-FM die in suicide pact

The Daily News article about this said that she was a psychotherapist. He was a motivational speaker. According to a note they left, written by Littig, she was apparently suffering "psychological problems" and that they were "going to do this together". I'm stunned.

Is the station so bad, that people are now offing themselves to end their association with them?
 
Are you kidding me? You all should be ashamed of yourselves for making fun of those that passed away! I am offended and hurt! I don't even know these people let alone have I ever heard of them before. You call them phonies?! No not acceptable at all! :mad:

Well, one can't overlook the irony of it all. She was a psychotherapist. He was a motivational speaker. Yet in their own darkest hours, neither one could carry on.

Does it make them phonies? All I can say is I know how Dionne Warwick felt earlier this year when she found out she was broke and certain "friends" of hers didn't bother to call about it earlier.

This is why take any kind of "self-help" advice with a grain of salt......
 
There are no professional qualifications for being a motivational speaker or life coach. The term psychotherapist is used rather loosely; the legal requirements vary from state to state, I believe, but it is not the same as being a psychologist and certainly not a psychiatrist. I'm personally acquainted with a "psychotherapist" who's as crazy as a loon, but she's still practicing away, taking advantage of people who need real help.

The poster who called them "phonies" is not wrong. It may be harsh to dismiss someone who just died like that, but I wouldn't attack the poster or defend the couple.
 
Sad they decided to end their lives; also sad that the fellow tenants got to smell what had to be a very rank odor from their decaying bodies.

It’s interesting how people vary on this. As for myself, I try to not let myself get let down over the passing of people I don’t know, regardless of how it occurred. This insulates me from “emotional” TV reporting, for example, where it’s not good TV if you can’t get someone to cry. I’d rather use reason, the opposite pole of thought processing from emotion, and not be swayed by such emotion, which almost always leads to bad decisions. Other people have different views on this, of course.
If it’s someone I knew personally, then I have a sense of loss.
 
I wonder if they might have left a can of air freshener in the hallway.

Not necessarily. I've seen some very strong, normally happy, people go through some very deep, debilitating depression.
