Just a couple of thoughts...first, "then the Q is stupid..."???? This thought negates anything wise and educated that might follow it. The Q is stupid? The energy, data, and sound waves that are transmitted now have a level of logic? Further, if the schollar meant to say that "The programmers of the Q are stupid.." This is also flawed. Incorrect maybe, in error perhaps, or maybe he just has to make the point to disagree...but the argument that they are STUPID? This one should be taken to the kick-ball field.
ok, enough with the english lesson...There are many markets where there is bleed over from station to station, where there is some sort of syndication. Think of RUSH...there was a long time that the Rutland station and Leb station were both within range. Burlington and Lebanon are on different plantes, as far as local-direct sales go. If the Q has good overall numbers, with loyal listeners and advertisers, they can only gain from the presence of the same show out of B-town...The sales staff can use and manipulate the numbers of the overall program to reach listeners in the sales presentation. They can marry the two, as far as an overall cume turning to the program.
I would argue that stupid would be the polar to what Heath and NB were thinking. H doens't fail to take into account the big picture.
Also, as I am sure you know, given your obvious gift of thought, there are blackout areas and things called "market exclusive" Outside that market, US can sell their programs to anyone they want. Although I would not put it above CC to attempt to bully US around, they really have no control. I am sure that the contract with US is Burlington-Metro, not "anywhere the dang signal can be heard." For US to enter into a contract like that would be "stupid."
Sorry, was that too out of the box thinking???
Just keepin an eye on the radio.
