The Quake Cuts Will & Willie

Stephanie Miller replaces Will & Willie on KQKE/960 effective next Monday (October 2). The boys will reportedly continue doing occasional special broadcasts.

Thanks for more live and local, Clear Channel.

I wasn't paying attention good. This was already posted farther down the page under the Air America topic...

Erase, erase.

Thanks for more live and local, Clear Channel.

A good syndicated show is better than a bad local-live show.
And Will and Willie were terrible.

What I would suggest...
Clear Channel goes back to the drawing board and puts together a good local-live show for PM drive.
Keep Stephanie Miller in morning drive - this is probably the best show in progressive talk radio.
Drop Franken and take Thom Hartmann live 9 am to 12 noon.
Go local from 3 pm to 7 pm.
Move Randi Rhodes to 7 pm to 10 pm.
Keep Lionel 10 pm to 1 am.

Hint: There are a couple of progressive hosts working the graveyard shift at KGO. One or both might be worth considering. But don't hire any more bad comedians and ex-politicians. That has not worked for AAR and CC's local management was idiotic to try such a discredited approach at this point.

It is inexcusable that Clear Channel's Bay Area progressive station has the worst ratings performance of any major market libtalk station in the West.

Bernie Ward will never leave KGO voluntarily. I've heard he was offered syndication (and also a rumor he was offered a job with Air America). Turned down all opportunities. He appears to have a lucrative gig on a station that practically blasts much of the West Coast. He's got a strong following.

As far as ratings, who knows? Their morning show was pretty dull. And the Bay Area is crowded with lots of stations (not just news/talk).

I agree with the Miller/Hartmann thing. This combo seems to be working well in a few markets (notably Seattle, where Hartmann's show beats all the other talk competition in the most important demos - including Rush).

Why would ANYONE want to leave KGO for the Quake? Ray Tal in the Morning? Not enough to ruin an established reputation, career, and income stream.

Stephanie Miller has one of the slickest produced/entertaining radio "shows" I've heard since the 70's! Why isn't more radio like this?? Welcome to SF, Stephanie!

Re: Willie Brown self-dealing bore

brown was a bore...he is a rude jerk who berated his employees at city hall...a two faced phoney who feathered his own nest and became rich as a government politician...and ran a law firm on the side that got clients wishing to influence sacramento ..a complete pieced of crap...

Bernie was syndicated years ago, and it didn't quite work out. But he was never offered an Air America job. Even if he were, his kind of ratings give him (and Ray) a level of job security at KGO that s practically unheard of in this business. Why jump ship?
