The radio TMO radio websites are GONE

Not sure when this happened, but the new websites for WLIR and Party are gone, as is the website for The Bone. Apparently, the Long Island Press website is the portal for all of the radio stations. If you enter the URL address, or start from the Long Island Press website, you get a center frame with web content limited to Jock Bio's, Message Boards and Playlists. Surprising considering that TMO had recently made significant changes to those websites. More curious is the change to the WLIR site, since WLIR seemed to be touting the fact that it was now "world famous" via the web. The audio link is still active, but for how long? They lowered the 64kps stream for 20kps. They killed the Party stream many months ago.

Perhaps TMO blew its $62 million already and are on austerity like so many Long Island schools?

Every so often there's also a rumor or two about the Moreys leaving the radio business, or at the very least, considering a change of format for one or more of their stations. Most recently I heard rumors about 98.5 The Bone, which has been slumping in the ratings. Would be a shame if WLIR's web stream is taken away....

Very odd.

It looked like the new web sites took a lot of time and $$$ to create. I'm surprised they were blown up so quickly.

I know that the LI Press is trying very hard to publicize their new web site, even making some former print features "internet only" now. But this could have still been done by making the LI Press site the portal to the new radio station sites.

And with John Caracciolo (sp?) running for Huntington Town Council, I'm sure he doesn't have as much time to spend working for Morey.

Not really so odd. The LI Press site is a little more functional than the flash sites. They are also able to consolidate the work load to the LI Press team. I like the use of the message board. ALso, I dont think it will be long before we start hearing Party on www.streamaudio.com. And you even spelled Caracciolo right. Would have been funny if you spelled John wrong though.

But the lack of strategy and direction is astounding

I agree that the old 'new' sites were not well designed and not functional. They also didn't work on all browsers like Netscape and Firefox. I also like the message board and agree with your comment on the wlir.fm board that they should somehow be combined. I can see doing this with The Bone and Party, but WLIR should be ‘different’. For the life of me, I can't understand why www.wlir.fm doesn't become the WLIR website. I absolutely love everything about that site. It is a tribute to its past and present. Some additional content and they could easily make it the primary portal for WLIR on the net.

I asked about Party's stream 6 months ago and was told its return was imminent. I hope you're right, since they seem to have dumped much of the Hip Hop and have gone back to dance.

What I find amazing is the way TMO constantly changes direction and wastes money. Buying radio stations, newspapers, selling radio stations, changing formats, changing them back, purchasing concert halls, selling concert halls, getting a signal back to the rest of LI, not doing it, making major expenditures on websites, and then scraping them. This seems to be a company without a plan, strategy or direction. Just an outsider’s view from one of WLIR and Party's biggest fans.
