The Ranch...Best Choice for ALL things Texas Country...

Well what can you say? If you want TRUE Texas Country and no Nashville non-sense then make sure to check out 95.9 The Ranch www.959theranch.com. I know, I know you might be thinking well I can't pick it up where I'm at then my advice would be to listen online while at work or whenever you can.

For true Texas Music fans this station is a station that stays true too its roots.

The imaging is sounding really good and the station has a new sound that is sure to keep it moving.

Sorry, Bug, but a station with no power like that will always have lower ratings.

Streaming is fine at home but dedicated listeners won't tolerate something that they cannot receive in their cars or homes sans a computer.

Not to mention the fact that it sounds like small town radio.

The Ranch is good, and so is 92.1..
To me those are the best country stations..
And at times they are hard to receive..

I like it - and I caught the small town sound too, made me think it was a locally privately owned deal.

Sure sounds that way and I like it. I kinda figured the local sound was what kept them afloat. Catering to the "local market"

I think the Ranch's playlist is too tight and restrictive and as a result, it is repetitive. They hardly play any female artists. They won't play George Strait and Miranda Lambert because, heaven forbid, they are successful. The Ranch should play the best traditional country regardless of where it comes from and how well or unwell it does on the charts - skewing towards Texas Country.

Bottom line is this station and 92.1 are stations in Mineral Wells and Glen Rose, respectively, and they sound just like where they are. They are small town stations with a small town sound and a small town staff. By all rights, they shouldn't even be discussed on this forum because they aren't even Dallas-Fort Worth stations. Neither can be picked up east of D/FW Airport.

i disagree with that assessment. The studio is in downtown Fort Worth. The traffic reports cover Fort Worth. It sounds like both stations are shooting for listeners in the western portion of the metroplex.

Well Jay I disagree with you on that one. The time is getting closer when they will be competing in the DFW market and you will be able to pick them up in Dallas. Just wait and see! (Yes again I know you have heard that one before but times are getting closer than you might think my friend)

As far as small town radio I'm not sure what you are talking about. They are supporting all of Texas Music, and Texas Music involves something that no other state can say they have.

My guess is a lot of the people on here don't understand the concept behind creating something that works and that is why KSCS wants to follow in the steps of stations such as the Ranch by going all Texas after 10pm since they can't play as much during the day which leaves all the die hard Texas Music lovers to The Ranch since they are Texas 24/7.

As far as the female artist there are not very many female artist in Texas Music and in order to stay true to what its listeners want they will continue to play nothing but Texas Music and if artist such as Miranda Lambert go the Nashville route then they will never make the station's playlist.

I think the Ranch has just as much play on the forum than any other station in DFW. :) just my opinion!

Well that is kind of the point, Miranda Lambert hasn't gone 'The Nashville route'. She has stayed true to her Texas roots. Mainstream country has come to her, not the other way around. Same with George Strait. It is ridiculous not to play an artist because they have been successful nationally.

So "Dfwradiobug" how long have your worked at the Ranch??? Are you sick of eating at Razzoo's yet?

All you have to do is listen to the commercial content of both 95.9 and 92.1 and you'll immediately recognize it is small time in a small town. Listen to the Morning Show on 95.9! They're small time! The guy that sold them that station is now retired and wealthy, and they got a Mineral Wells radio station!

And studios in downtown Fort Worth?????? You can build them where ever you want! City of license is the indicator! Mineral Wells (unless they move the transmitter to Jacksboro, WOW!) and Glen Rose??? Not really BIG TIME!

And I'm waiting for Dallas coverage! It will never happen at 92.1. It might happen at 95.9, but it'll cost them loads of $$$$$$$$$.

Oooo looky there in the center. Someone The Ranch is supposed to "never play her music". And what's the matter with Sundance Square? Ok, I admit I've never been there, but it looks nice on Google maps. Lastly I do listen to the Monrning Show on a regular basis (Mostly for Rebel....most talented of the trio IMO) It's two months old, just getting started. On the positive side, I like the fact they've dumped all the cookie cutter "Hollywood" and other generic features. Like the music, the Morning Ride features focus on Texas. New things are being tried, some work, some don't. Let's see where this show is a year from now in June 09.

Hope the show makes it to June, 09.

Hope the show makes it to September '08, and I think the folks across at Razzooos make more money..before tips.. just sayin.

Wow!!!!, she appears a whopping once that day. On a good day, maybe twice. 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend', her last album got great reviews across the board (http://www.metacritic.com/music/artists/lambertmiranda/crazyexgirlfriend?q=miranda%20lambert). She is obviously one of the most talented young Texan singer-songwriters going...yet, she gets one, maybe two spins a day on The Ranch, because she has the audacity to actually chart nationally.

Who gives a rats arse if it is big time?

Personally, I liked them before their shift a month ago. They skewed Texas Country, but still played quality Trad-Country from George Strait, Dierks Bentley, Dwight Yoakam, Merle Haggard, LeeAnn Womack etc. Now, the playlist is too tight and one-dimensional. Everything seems to run together.

The point isn't whether they sound big time or not, the point is that they cover less then half of the Metroplex with their rotten signal and that is a built in failure factor. It affects their ability to ever be a viable player in the market.
They are small time radio!
