The Rays are moving...

They'll still be over on 1250 for some games. WHNZ will still carry weekday day games and games that would coincide with Lightning or Buccaneers games (from what I've been told).

I wonder what this means for the future of WHNZ. I'm sure that station got a lot of listeners to Rays games last year - and maybe a few more who tuned into other shows. Now they really have nothing left there.

That station seems to be mostly brokered.
Every time I tune in, it's some dissappointing health informercial, especially in the a.m.

Is Clark Howard on there, but only nights or weekends? Funny, after hearing the morning crap, it's hard to stay with the station or return later to see what is on.

The biggest issue with the Rays is night coverage, most of the games are at night, 620 will help "some", but not alot. I think 620 is looking for Rays Branding and that will help their Arb #'s....IMHO

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesnt Clear Channel sell the time to the Rays? Just like a weekend colon cleansing infomercial? And yes, the 620 signal is probably the best nite AM signal in Tampa Bay. 970 is probably second best. 970 does not put a good signal to the northern counties at nite because they have to protect the co channel 970 in Louisville. 620 has to protect Milwaukee. The only way the Rays can get a better signal is to go to one of the big stick class C FM's in the bay area, like the Bucs did.

With all due respect to what radio-locator or engineers may say, I have frequently heard the Rays on 1250 fading in and out at night in Tallahassee. Sometimes I could hear an almost complete game when heading home south on US19. 620 is usually unlistenable until you're almost to Weekie Wachee.

That's good news for folks, like me, up here in New Port Richey. 1250 was a challenge at night here. Of course, it is fitting to put the American League champs on the better signal. And yes, word is that the time is sold to the Rays and they, in turn, sell sponsorships. Is that still the case? Regardless, it certainly makes sense to put sports play by play on the sports station.

Last time I was through NPR, 620's night signal had it's share of problems as well. I guess it all depends on how much power the Cubans are running on any given night ;)
