There has been a lot of discussion here about the format change on Doug Lane's former radio station...but there is something thats missing by some posters.
You can change the music all you want...do all kind of promotion...play with all the gimmicks, and it's not going to make a big differance with the ratings.
Why? Unless the River changes frequency allowing more output--and moves the xmitter to a place like Mountain Top they'll NEVER be able to take on the powerhouses--such as KRZ, Magic etc etc. They need to enlarge their RF "foot print.

With Bobby V taking it over I wanted to sample it: I live in Honesdale and "the River" is barely audible here (forget 102.3!).>>>>>>>>>>>If I didn't know "Jack" I would say it was a stunt, there is such a variety of music, and reports are that the Doo Wop Show will also air on the FM..............I don't plan to critique it right now because I'm not too sure it is ready just yet.....But the signal is a crutch that Bob is surely aware of, and it is heard loudly in Scranton/WB...it just can't be heard over the mountains to the the north well.....I have read reports of it being heard in Northern NJ, so it has it's advantages and disadvantages.
______________

The River's reception actually stinks. I have trouble sometimes during the day getting them on my radio at work in Wilkes-Barre Twnshp. And they keep having liners about giving Hazleton what they want and their station is total static in Hazleton. I have a power antenna on my radio at home and on 104.9 I actually get bleed over from 105.1 WILQ from central PA. They can have the best station in the world but if they do not improve their reception nobody is going to hear them. It's pretty bad when I have trouble getting them in Wilkes-Barre sometimes. It seems in the last year or so 104.9 reception has gotten worse. There was a time when I had no trouble getting their station at work.

Your point is well taken. Rock 107 never really became a
consistent ratings leader (with a few number ones under
their belt) until Jim Loftus expanded the frequencies in
hard to reach areas. It gave access to 107 in places it was
not available to before.

I haven't kept up with the Luzerne County ratings, but is there some loser of a station down here that 104.9 could do an LMA or something (until they are financially stable and can buy it) and get exposure around this area? Moving to Mtp would mean changing COL; raising power would mean trying to change from Class A to something better and moving freqs.

IIRC, 107 had no choice; some distant station wanted to raise ERP and 107 had to move freq. Someone with a better memory than I can fill in the details.
______________
