The real cross promotion miss

Some people like to talk about cross promotion between news/talkers and TV news departments. With so many stations in clusters now, why don't more stations cross promote with there music FM's with promos and news updates from there News/Talk AM's? There FM's younger listeners would like some of the AM's content if they knew it existed

So you're suggesting a station tell their listeners to change the station and go to another station? Everything they do is to hold on to that listener. Even when they're not the competition, they're still the competition. A top-rated FM is probably locked in a ratings battle with another FM in the market, so the loss of a tenth of a share could hurt. I hear some stations that do it, and try to present an integrated market package, even promoting different genres of music. But stations want to prevent listeners from leaving. That's their goal. If they'll send them anywhere, it'll be to the station web site, and there they can get that news content under the FM's banner.

The thing about the TV cross promotion is typically the TV news staff is bigger and better known than the radio folks.

Does a tenth of a share loss really hurt the whole clusters bottom line if the AM adds a share or two?

Depends how tight the race is. Sometimes the competition will launch a competitor just to take a tenth away from the #1. All this would do is save the competitor money. Why would you do that?
