The Real Reason for WGST's Demise

News Sounder

Yep. News Sounder. WGST carried Fox News and had the same sounder.

There's really no imagination left in news sounders these days. While WSB picked one that sounds like ELO's "Don't Bring Me Down", WGST got one that sounds like the beginning of "Green Acres".

Just cant compete with that in this market. Right?

;D ;D ;D

(Still trying to figure out AN106.7 sounder - and others. Any suggestions?)

I liked it when WGST was using the WCBS sounder package. They used that from the 1970s into the early 1990s and the 105.7 days. In fact, it might have still been in use up until Planet Radio.

Neal Boortz calls the "Don't Bring Me Down" sounder on WSB the "flying trashcan" (if that's the one you are talking about).

I HATE AN106.7's business news sounder with the trumpets. It sounds like death, or a "you lose" sound from a game show, or mood music from a sad/tense moment on a cheap TV drama. Too ominous.

The worst one on AN106.7 is the traffic sounder. A loud, distorted guitar. It is jarring. Basically, when I hear it, I think of a dentist drill.

I was just a drummer but I think they used a french horn or a trombone with a mute in the bell. Just doesn't sound like a trumpet to me.

Maybe if they do items on Merlin Media, they can just play the TPIR "loser horn". ;D

Every time I hear their news sounder I think "Sweet Adoline". :D

That is the best definition of Atlanta traffic I have heard in a long time!

Yeah, they totally phoned that one in. No effort at all. I keep saying it but I honestly think GST would have done great to wholesale ripoff their sister station KFI 640. Sounders, imaging, lineup, everything. If you are going to put in minimal effort, at least ripoff a station that knew how to do it right. Ah well.

Anyway, the 106.7 Atlanta Business Chronicle piece on Monday reported with glee that the 550 Pharr Road building was being converted from offices into apartments. 550 Pharr was where WGST spent some of their best years, in my opinion. And now it's gonna be apartments.

Yawn, I mean yay.

Just wonder if Zintak is behind this somehow.
