The Return of Sports on 740??

Mike Bianchi fas reported that ClearChannel might flip 740 back to Sports soon.
However the tragic news is that Dan Sileo will be the headliner of this station, as a matter of fact Sileo will be the AM guy on every CC Sports radio station in the state, He must have lots of pictures of the higher ups at CC.
 
I would expect that he would continue his AM drive show, probably Dan Patrick and Jim Rome during the day, and maybe simulcast Duemig from 620 in PM drive. That seems to be the sort of direction they're taking elsewhere....

Man, he's certainly a tough listen. I have no idea what anyone sees in him. Maybe, if he were the secondary co-host or a sidekick, but egads he's not very interesting
 
My sources say the same thing. Sports radio is coming back to 740 and I'm guessing right around the start of baseball season. The Rays have been courting Clear Channel pretty hard for that AM 740 signal and it looks like they might get it. Look for Sileo to anchor mornings as before followed by Jim Rome since Premier has already given notice to AM 1080 that they're losing him. As for the rest of the day who knows... I doubt very seriously they will be giving any kind of decent salary for an afternoon talent although I guess they could shift Tuck and the Shot Doctor over from 540 as well. Pretty lame if you ask me. I doubt they'd pipe in Duemig from Tampa Bay since he's VERY localized and the markets are very different. Where Orlando doesn't give a crap about the Lightning and USF, the same goes for Tampa with the Magic and UCF.

ONE MORE THING.... ESPN 1080 has adjusted their imaging and are now referring to themselves as "ESPN 1080 The Team". Apparently the radio "genius" Bruce Maduri figured they'd take the name before 740 flips back. Who knows if they even own the name or what... from what I hear it's like an episode of Sesame Street over at Genesis.
 
The national news board had some info about Dan Patrick becoming part of the Fox sports lineup and some other changes, so maybe it will just be Sileo in the morning and FSR the rest of the day, with 162 Rays games (plus spring training) to fill out the schedule. As far as the "Team" brand, it will just be Fox Sports 740.
 
Dan Patrick was on XM 142 this morning, I thought it was a Technical Mix-Up from XM but I guess not.
I think that 740 will keep Tuck and Shot Doctor in the PM Drive Time. Duemig will cost too much and I do not think he wants to dual cities
He is a Tampa Guy..
 
remember, silly-o's biggest cc supporter was gabe hobbs and he was part of the purge on tuesday.

in my opinion, cc-tampa has some better options to anchor 740, ron and ian, justin palowski are two. i somewhat understand the silly-o appeal, but energy and a little charisma can't overcome lack of prep and knowledge forever.

I am guessing, but it's probably a simple equation of him being willing to work for what they want to pay.
 
hey are running a loop all weekend leading up to becoming "The Game" on Monday. I bet that's what will happen. I guess radio-locator won't have to update the stations format now
 
i turned on 740 today and heard "the game" witch is triple h's theme song and thought "what the hell?" then i heard them playing old sports records or something then they played another song. it sounds like that is how it goes for the weekend. they play the game then they play an old sports moment or something like that. and i read somewhere that they are getting new call letters wygm? interesting. we will have to see how this one works out.
 
amongst the stunting fare is legendary Sportscaster Merle Harmon's educational tape on the business, along with a very old school, straight arrow instruction tape on how to be a play by play announcer...even for professional wrestling.

After a half hour of this, I realized...it was the longest non play by play broadcast time I'd spent listening to Florida AM radio in years.

I don't know if that says something about me personally...or the sad, no longer laughable condition of Florida AM radio....

And the calls are WYGM ...
 
The call letter switch is stupid... and while we're at it, Genesis should pick up WQTM for 1080. Why not??? What a joke.
 
Sounds like 740 will have Fox Sports radio to start with Rome in the Mid-Day.
Then later Sileo and Shot Doctor will go to 740 also.
I still cannot believe that Shot Doctor has his own show.

CC will likely "Park" the call letters elsewhere.
