The Return of THE BOX - Charleston

This new Box will have a decent signal, but it peters out just before Moncks Corner. I've carried it close to the southern city limits but then it interferes with the Kingstree signal.

They said it may be on 1390. If so, then the entire Charleston area would be covered daytime. 99.3 is listenable in most of the populated areas though except Moncks and the northern parts of Summerville.

The old Facebook for 92.5 The Box was updated and says The Box will be at 99.3 To bad its not at 92.5 how much longer is it goin take Kickin to kick the bucket? Take z93 jamz head on this time and leave country to The Wolf and WEZL.

Well it looks like Moncks Corner won't be able to hear THE BOX this go round. It'll be interesting to see how much Apex invest this time which is probaly not much. Mornings could be a live and local success since Rickey Smiley is now on Z93.

My understanding is Apex HATES laying out money - be it for equipment, talent, whatever. Don't count on them investing too much in the flip. Rimshots will have to listen online, I guess.

Sounds great so far! Lots of newer Hip-Hop and Southern Hip-Hop classics even an upbeat remix of "Bands Make Her Dance", plus I haven't heard any R&B songs yet. Don't really understand what was wrong with "THE BOX" the first time around? I'd assume Apex finally saw what a mistake they made by flipping, but they lost Rickey Smiley. Not a fan of Big Boy's Morning Show, but Russ Parr would've been better or even having the ONLY live & local Urban morning show in the 843. Apex has already crushed Cumulus with STAR 99.7 so this will really put STAR at #1 fending off Z93 and MAGIC 107.3. Doesn't hurt that 99.3 and 99.7 are near each other on the radio dial too. Pat Garrett is the voice guy which is awsome and a liner said they have 50,000 watts of power. They also are dropping liners promoting being on 95.9 HD2 and to purchase a HD radio to listen in high def.

No one buys HD because it is a total flop.

That may be true, but feeding a translator via an HD subchannel has fewer rules than using an AM to feed it. You don't have to worry about the AM signal contour and staying within 25 miles of the AM transmitter when you use a stronger FM signal to relay!

Has there ever been an urban station on a translator that has beaten the competition (or came close to it) on a stronger signal in the same area?

YES! The new Cox Urban, POWER 106.1 in Jacksonville just launched on a translator and it's first book was released. They beat CC's 93.3 THE BEAT, which was the only longtime heritage Urban in that market.

99.3 has a pretty good signal noticed some static while driving around. Not sure how far inland it goes as I went as far as North Charleston. Also noticed for the RDS Apex has the format set as rock not hip hop.

some listeners on the social sites say that the reception is horrible in Summerville.

99.3 is a 250 watt translator of an HD signal, so that's why the signal is so weak in Summerville. Their transmitter is in West Ashley. It has a range of about 20 miles.

Kinda sucks that areas like Summerville, Goose Creek and Moncks Corner will have trouble picking it up. They are promoting the Tune In app for listeners to download. I wonder if Apex would put them on a bigger stick, again?
