The Revamped Fan--Now That They've Settled In

93.7 the Fan did a major revamp a little while back. Now that they've settled into their time slots, here's what I like and don't like.

Morning Show: this was a major win. Alexander was consistently annoying and the show improved by his removal. The big surprise is how good Josh Miller has been. It's obvious that he feels comfortable working with Gianotti--there's no hesitation, he doesn't contradict himself within every sentence, and he actually follows the conversation. He's still very, very poor as an "expert" since he's a punter, but I really enjoy this new morning show mix. I can only figure that Seibel must have just browbeat him to death--he was hard to listen to in the afternoon.

Cook and Poni: I don't miss Vinnie in the least, he was an incredible lightweight and had no business taking a sports talk job in Pittsburgh if he wasn't going to put the time in and do research. This new show can be good at times and can be four hours of cringe sometimes. Poni is just so hard to take. On their best days, they have good give and take with Poni knowing enough about Pittsburgh teams to be able to challenge Cook on some his more insular opinions (ie AJ). On their worst days Poni calls Cook a grumpy old scumbucket and Cook laments that he can't get laid. Cook is much better on his own.

Starkey and Muller: Ugg. Why do they think they need anyone with Starkey? He's on by himself now and it's a great show. Muller tries to make every topic about himself and the "Power Ranking" is the worst daily bit in the history of sports talk radio. Number 4--colored socks. Leave Starkey by himself and he talks sports. Put someone with him and all we hear about is nude cycling, cheap beer, stomach problems, etc, etc. With Madden music free now, I turn the dial as soon as I get in the car.

Colin Dunlap: Who cares, he comes on at 6.
