The RIVER a bad FLOOD

This station is about as bad as DAVE. They asked a few days ago to call 404-741-9797 to request your favorite group of ALL time. So I called and requested the Beach Boys. It was for the 4th of July, "you request it we play it" schtick. Well as of yet, I have not heard anything remotely close to the Beach Boys. I am thoroughly disgusted with radio in this beautiful town, it is really so sad we have such shit to listen to.

I will give an example, I went to a pool party today AT A VERY expensive Buckhead condo, it was an extremely diverse crowd of many colors and ages. I hooked up a huge 80's boom box to a 60's 70's oldies classics rock internet station. When I did, everyone in the crowd went WOW, this is the best I have heard in years. This just proves that no mater what age, the classic oldies will NEVER DIE. Atlanta stations, you better get a clue real quick. I have proof

Call me 404-713-3309.

You're preaching to the choir Brent, but the college educated 30 year old turd INsultants are destined to crash and burn terrestrial radio in this town with their same old, tired top 20 washouts from the 80s and 90s, same songs over and over again and again that their "people meters" and "focus groups" tell them to play.

We mine as well stick a fork in this dying industry, it's now run by corporate scoundrels who don't give a rats ass what the community in which these stations serve want to hear, don't care that their are deomgraphics of afflulents who they believe are too old sucking up their children's inheritience on oxygen, and the FCC gives licenses for translators away to these scumbag corporate turds to ensure NO ONE can EVER compete on THEIR turf, the very local airwaves that once belonged to the public. The FCC turns a blind eye on its own rules, changing them to whatever suits the largest check writer of the day.

Telecom act of 1996 is working out real well for us isn't it?

Brent is a good guy. He loves to talk radio. :)

Back to the conversation.... it bugs the crap out of me that when I turned 50 this year my money was no longer worthy of advertising. I did not suddenly stop going to Wal-Mart or trolling Amazon.com. I just had a birthday. Nothing more.

An oldies station brings in folks who tend to have a very high disposable income. Why is that not attractive to advertisers?

I've had the same question. My parents are in their 50s and they spend more money on vacations, sports tickets, and other things than they ever did. Yet advertisers don't want to reach them...it's quite silly.

Because the moron early 30 something year old consultants, and the corporate thugs, are destroying this once great media piece by piece. It's as if it's a "Custer's last stand", gobbling up all the available channels so no one can put LPFM or non-profit radio (you know, RADIO PEOPLE ACTUALLY PULL OUT THEIR WALLETS TO SUPPORT), and fill the airwaves with the same 100 songs over and over, extremist hate talkers, and dribble drabble "news" infotainment.

All News? My ass. I hear more stuff happen on my agency issued 700/800 P25 portable that NEVER makes the news, like the grenade and chemicals found on July 4th in Marietta at the Value Village on Cobb Parkway in the donation box to name one.

These bafoons running the show don't care that 50+ are the only ones left with disposable income.

They're living in about as much a fantasy world thinking people actually listen to their garbage pits as we think they'll ever program quality radio as once was before the industry became an unregulated free-for-all wasteland overtaken by corporate scumbags.

This just shows how sometimes "old fashion" listening to police and fire scannners can pay off.

I will cut 106.7 some slack due to the remarkable quick "time wise" start. Are they developing their own news gathering staff? I hope so. It really would not cost that much. Have you seen the starting pay for journalism graduates? If they start developing a news gathering team, it will take time. Do they have someone calling, or emailing the PIO's daily? Is someone monitoring the police and fire bands? Have they developed a "magic Rolodex" with phone numbers and email address of local news-makers. Any good local news operation should have some reporters doing the not so glamorous of building up "trust" with the various information officers. Do they have and promote a "new tip" phone-line?

Form personal experience, sometimes you might call on someone for months then you will get information that makes the previous 3 to 6 months of calls worth it.

Fox 5 is good but remember, they only have to fill 5 or 6 hours. 106.7 has 24! 106.7 needs a good news gathering staff of their own.

IMHO If a story like this is missed next year then there is a real problem with 106.7 news.

Brent, I guess if people had stopped recording music in 1979, and all anyone ever listened to was music from the 60s and 70s, the world would be a perfect place ::)

Unfortunately for you, music has progressed, and time marches on...

When are you know nothings going to learn that your nemesis is the advertisers, not the radio stations?

The 50 plus audience is not valued by advertisers as they use platforms other than radio to reach them. It has nothing to do with consultants, or corporations, or "suits". (And don't give me this "We have more money" argument. I've heard it and it's a valid argument. BUT...it's been presented and the advertisers still don't care. I've sat in meetings when the argument was made.) Be glad you still have 70's music on the air...cause its death is not too far off.

Times change. Get over it. I have. And, I'm pushing toward 60.

Well bully for you, tell me why other big markets still have successful oldies formats. ??? I am 61. Atlantaboy, if you say one more thing about my taste in music, I am going to come though this computer. You need to grow up, not everyone likes that shit Triple A format that you seem to embrace either.

Really? You're going to call the entire station crap because they didn't play your Beach Boys tune? Come on. You sound sour. Wait. That's what this entire board is for. Fired or unemployed jocks nitpicking. You cant lie. Their numbers have been strong for the last year for a rock format. And they bill.

You can't expect some part timer operating the boards on the 4th of July to play YOUR request. It's not going to happen.

Plus, I'm not sure too many radio companies (especially big ones) care if a group of people at a party that you attended liked the music you played. I was at a party some time ago and heard some Skrillex and other dubstep tunes and everyone was dancing. Why don't we just find a 100,000 watter (Looking at you, Dave) and plop a dubstepper right there? Apparently telling a story about some party you went to will sell advertisements ::)

Okay, Brent. We all know you don't like the River because it isn't true "oldies"...

They've given oldies a chance several times since WFOX. It has failed miserably. It's time to get over it and get used to Sirius/XM.

No more whining.

Brent, if you don't want me to talk about your taste in music, then stop complaining about the fact that stations aren't playing music that suits your personal taste - this ENTIRE THREAD is based on the fact that one particular station isn't playing your personal favorite band

And speaking of "growing up", I think you need to do just that - I don't listen to the same music that was popular when I was a teenager, yet you seem to be obsessed with it :-\

I heard someone say that the reason older demos are not attractive to ad buyers is because the older a person gets, the more likely they are to be set in their ways when it comes to buying products and where they buy them. Advertising is about impulse buying and since younger demos are much more adaptable to change, they can be convinced more easily into buy the newest gadgets, clothes, foods, etc.
