The "River" auditions morning hosts!

No one is talking about it but the "River" has been doing the "Wheel of Dj's" for the last week and a half.
Tim Rhodes, Paula Phillps, Kaedy Kiley auditioned for their 530-830am chair...

And...

The first trend of summer is out:

B98 took a pretty big hit 12+
790 beats the Fan for the first time in a LONG time 12+
Rock 100.5 takes a dip
Dave holds steady
95.5 the beat continues to "Beat" Q

Again, just a trend but still interesting. PPM's debut next month.

I've been listening, and honestly, I found Paula to be the best. I wasn't wowed by the others. It would be nice to have a fresh voice in mornings.

I'd love to have Kaedy Kiely on, but would she really work for AM drive? I'm so used to her in the PMs...

If she did do PM drive, would she bring back her 5:00 Whistle (if Rock 100.5 doesn't beat them to it in their ape-ing of 96 Rock)?

From what I understand about the trends (not much), each station's trend can be dragged down or up by the ratings in the last book. That is, if a station goes up (or down) significantly in the last book, the following trend will only show some of that up/down unless they continue significantly in that direction and keep pushing the trend in that direction. So (IIRC)...

Kiss shows a big pop
B98.5 did indeed take a big hit
Kicks takes a(nother) hit (again, for the umpteenth time, where the hell did the ATL country market go after Eagle went bye-bye?)
WJZZ continues its turnaround from the last book
Project and Rock 100.5 (and Viva) probably didn't take actual hits, but are being dragged down by earlier books
Legend got a tiny pop

I liked Tim Rhodes the best. He's been smoking the Athens airways and I would like
to see him back in Hotlanta. He has been great ever since he split with Southside

I'm sure Bob Neil and the boys will check with the experienced pros on radio info to make the big decision...there's so much wisdom and knowledge here.

Rhodes is by far the best former jock not currently working in the ATL. He should get that gig hands down if The River knows what they're doing.

If all radio execs checked with the experienced pros on Radio-Info we would have no Zakk, Mess, Cledus and Giant. 99X would still be alternative. Randy and Spiff would still be together. Steven "Brisket" Shapiro wouldn't be on the air. DAVE-FM would be number one due to my leadership.

I can see why radio execs wouldn't want to listen to the learned posters at Radio-Info.

It's pretty obvious that music will still be the star of the morning show on The River after a new host is hired. Kaedy Kiley or Tim Rhodes would bring some power in terms of name recognition. But with the station auditioning Paula Phillips, it makes you wonder why they fired Lexie Kaye. She was functional and fit the format.

Maybe because River now has competition in the form of Rock 100.5 on one end and True Oldies on the other (and the ratings show it)? When 96 Rock flipped to Project Buzzkill, River had the AOR (and to some extent "oldies") market all to themselves.

KK or TR might steal listeners and not be too pricey.

I have to say that the PD for the River, Chris Miller, is a great guy. I appreciate him giving me the opportunity to audition. In fact all the people at Cox Radio Atlanta were great! They do it the right way. I may not get the gig but I had a blast trying out for it. Good news is I'm lucky enough to be part of the Cox Radio family in Athens.

I guess we are to assume at this point that Kelly and Alpha...and any type of duo morning show...are out of the question.

If they are going to stay music intensive in the mornings, then why did they let Lexie Kaye go?

Actually, many people read the posts radio-info. Its one of the best contrarian indicators of what will work for the general public.

Hmmmm..... Rock 100.5 had a 1.0 share 25-54 for July, True Oldies had a 1.7 share, River had a 5.6 for July - what ratings to show for it? By my count River has 2x the other 2 - combined.

Latest trends 12+ have Rock 100.5 and True Oldies each with 2.0, and River at 4.0 (down from the 5's). I know 12+ isn't the money demo that 25-54 is, but someone's changing the dial...even if it is at both ends (probably the young end for Rock 100.5 and the old end for True Oldies).

Seriously--how has River trended in 25-54 since Rock 100.5 and True Oldies flipped on? I'd find it hard to believe that there was NO attrition to these two stations, even in 25-54.

Lexie Kaye apparently was terminated due to showing up late a number of times, which is of course a no-no for a morning show.

Music drives that station. I highly doubt the station thinks a morning jock will have a significant effect on ratings. But if Cox could get a Tim Rhodes or a Kaedy Kiley for what they were paying Lexie, that would be a bonus.

Interesting. What about actual share numbers (not rank)? If those hold up kudos to Cox.
