The River XMTR Fire

Not just 97.3 The River -- 2 TV stations as well

The fire broke out just after 1 AM Monday at the WHP-TV/97.3 FM site on Blue Mountain north of Harrisburg. The fire melted the HD gear for The River and the DT transmitter for CBS21.

97.3 The River came back on Monday afternoon at reduced power. Won't return to full power until mid-January at earliest.

WHP-DT is dark for now, including its My Network subchannel. CBS21 has kept its analog feed to Comcast in Harrisburg. Don't know if DirecTV and Dish Network customers in the Central Penn DMA are affected.

Sister station CW15 also was dark for several hours due to the fire.

Are there generally firewalls between the transmitter rooms of different entities? It was mentioned how lucky WITF-TV was to have not sustained damage due to a firewall. Was all of the CC gear packed into one area?
Perhaps this will change now that the CC TV side was sold off recently.

CC Radio now owns and maintains the XMTR site. Once the sale closes WHP-TV and WITF will be CC Radio tenants.
