The Rob coming to WDKS

He was some guy from Billings MT CHR/Pop KRSQ, he's gonna join for nights at WDKS.

I pretty much know where this leads. No Urban and they'll stay the "losing" course against WSTO.

From what I understand this is a voicetrack'ed night thing... besides who would move from Billings, MT for a part-time night gig anyways? Yeah a voicetracked guy from Montana doing nights at CHR in Evansville is the way to beat HOT 96! LOL

radiogeek, I'm with you 100% on this! BUT....

I might be wrong about this, so if I am, Radio Rob, please correct me.

Back in the day during that one book(it was just a couple of years ago), CC owned Kiss and Brill owned Hot 96(then 96 STO). Kiss can only be heard in the Evansville meto while STO is 100,000 watts. Yet remember when
Kiss beat STO in that one book? I believe Dees was still being syndicated and was on Kiss and he beat STO's
morning show Jack and Diane. Wasn't Evansville the only market where Dees beat the hometown competition?
If so, it could happen again, maybe this time at night.

Yeah but at least if it was a satellite like Romeo's Playhouse there is some phone interaction.. when you have a guy in Billings, MT voicetracking a station in Evansville not much phone interaction... if he uses calls from listeners in Billings you deal with the accent... people in Montana have a very different accent from folks in Evansville, and if he is branded as local it wont work...

The Rob will be live and local on WDKS...he's working out his notice in Billings....

Why would someone move from Billings to Evansville for a part-time position. If you read Falens (old night girls) myspace blog on why she left it says she's been there for 5 years and has been part time... why all of a sudden after she walks out would they decide to bring someone in for ft? Espically when this last book was so bad for them

Yes, Kiss did beat STO a few years back. This was due to the rodents (read: upper management) of Brill Media using the station as a credit card. They were running a thirty minute spot load an hour, most of it trade. Vice President Alan Beck was quoted as saying as long as heard music then inventory was still available.

Good luck to "The Rob". May he bring excitement to night time radio in these parts.

OK, so now KISS has fired their midday guy...

When CC had 106.1, they did beat 'STO in the four country metro two or three books by going younger and more CHR with an urban twist at night.. Then the sales department griped they couldn't sell (or wouldn't) sell this scewed CHR against 'STO that still had the biggest cume in the ADI.... However, the sale was coming and Regent screwed it up, quickly and it's been down hill since.. The young PD from Flint that was at 'DKS when I was doing news/sports (fill part time) at CC, took my advice and went for the old 'STO (Brill owned) at the ankles.. He agreed that 'STO was really a Hot A/C day and CHR/Pop night.. When SC (Wiky) bought it, 'STO was, by then a Hot CHR and recovered to decent numbers.. The latest books shows 'DKS falling again and 'STO holding a tie for #3 12+...(with their young Country FM/93.5 'The Wolf')....

I know where I would go if I had 106.1.

Man, I wish I could win a really BIG lottery out here. I'd buy me a House first, then buy the Regent cluster(including Owensboro) and flip 106.1 to Urban as 106.1 The Beat The Tri State's Hip Hop/R&B authority and the Home of the Steve Harvey Morning Show.

Do you really think a urban station would work in a place like Evansville?

I am sure that an urban would work in Evansville. If it was programmed right.

I run an urban in a small town of 26000 and it sells.

I agree that a full-blown urban/techno/rhythmic format could produce a larger share than KISS has. They took over the CHR stage a few years back because they had built the perception that they were more hip or more urban leaning than the mainstream CHR delivery of STO. Problem is, since the debut of HOT and the alternative music delivery systems available to younger demos, the increase would probably be temporary at best and fleeting as this age group shows very little loyalty. Just look at the past several books, both KISS and HOT not increasing combined share. I guess you could ask the question of who is flanking who in this battle. KISS might be afraid to blink since if my hunch is wrong, HOT would grow towards a 10 share. Pony up a double digit 100K CHR and their anchor WIKY, that would prove to be a revenue munching machine. Also keep in mind that market revenue has not grown that much the past couple of years and current station rates with the exception of IKY continue to be cheap. Bottom-line on this one, the necessary risk (marketing and programming expense to really provide compelling programming vs potential revenue upside is not there.

No techno. Techno is not a part of any Rhythmic/Urban station.

As to "can it work?" hasn't WEOA-AM answered that question for 10 years?

I think done right, a 5 or 6 isn't out of range.

I was thinking, should we swap with WGBF-FM? Move rock to 106.1 and place Urban on 103.1.
