With talk in morning and afternoon drive, games on the weekends, Eagles and Monday night sports chat, they are not a full service music station. I will give Kidd the benefit and believe he had great numbers, if so, why didn't management have his style/brand of talk on the station 24/7. If the station was so great in mornings, afternoon and M&H are sorely missed, with all the calls from upset listeners demanding the talk to return, why the hell did they go music and stop some legit station from flipping to Real Active. They are a big joke, predictable tunes, Racist against the Machine every other song, talk and bragging about being the true Rock station. Why not let Kidd do his thing and bring back talk instead of doing this horrible imitation of an Active Rocker, like I said before, they are still preventing a legit station from doing Active the right way, they are just a bust @$$ in the business.

Hi. Some of WYSP's highest ratings were with talk in the morning, talk in the afternoon, Eagles on the weekends, and the music you're hearing now. The specialty programming is still the same BEFORE it flipped to free, with the only change being Kidd Chris in afternoons.

You're grasping at straws and quite frankly, beginning to get tiresome. If you're so happy with WRFF, what purpose is served by continuing to bitch negatively on WYSP on a whole?

The promos of listeners whining for talk was a page out of the playbook from K-Rock's flip in NYC. They did the same thing.

I admit that both WYSP and K-Rock has predictable tunes.

"Racist Against the Machine"? That's the most idiotic derogatory nickname I've ever heard. So what if they support Mumia? I understand it's a sensitive issue in Philadelphia and led to Milkman's banning of them on MMR's air, but Morello admitted on Stern's show years ago that they didn't understand all the facts in the case and it was mainly Zach's deal. Idiots? Yes. Uninformed? Most definitely. Racist? I'm not exactly sure how a white band with a latino frontman supporting blacks and American Indians make them "racist". Please explain. Use a number 2 pencil.

What's funny is that those promos for K-Rock were produced quite some time before the actual flip back to music. Just thought you'd like some inside info.

Seems to me they're going back to the formula they had when they were crushing everybody and most certainly were not an imitation. Not a bad idea, just might be a little bit too late.

RWS, you and i have very similar views on radio stations, (other than the fact that my #1 is MMR and your #1 is RFF and that you hated WTHK), but YSP is still a HELL of a lot better now than it was up until three weeks ago...it least they're playing music 98% of the time.

For someone who "acts" like he knows sooo much about radio, it is funny that RWS has to ask why WYSP flipped from talk. CAUSE IT WASN'T WORKING DUMBASS! It is all about ratings. Doesn't matter how you get them...you just have to get them!

So, when they were Howard Stern Mornings, Eagles Radio, and a rock station the rest of the time...they were unstoppable. No matter how many mistakes they made, no one in the market could touch them. They tried for more...O&A, D&M, etc. But, now they realize thru mistakes that they need to go back to when they were a juggernaut. Everyone makes mistakes. They are now owning up to it, which in itself is respectful, and are going back to what works...and/or worked. Like many have said, the most logical thing would be to bring Ed back. Besides Howard and Eagles, they branded Couzin Ed as the face of the rock portion of the station for over 10 years. And, like it or not RWS, it worked...it got #1 ratings, and that is the whole point isn't it?

For once, I'd like to whole heartedly agree with RWS and say bring back the talk, but onto the real topic.

I do find it funny how WYSP carries Temple games, kinda really conflicting with their "rock" being "back". Same goes with the Coaches' Show, why wasnt that dumped? It's not in the game day line-up of programming.
THANK YOU for giving Chris the benfit of the doubt, he was/is doing good (not as sure about ONA), but as Huggy said in their recent podcast (www.mattandhuggyshow.com) they didnt want to stretch "tit and fart" jokes out to all day. And while in their last ratings update they were about tied up with WIP, they just weren't billing enough (again, explained on the M&H podcast, mattandhuggyshow.com, interesting listen), leading to the flip back to rock.
I'm glad you brought this next one up again cause it constantly bugs me- How does WYSP going back to rock the way they have (or the way they only did weekends up until the filp) prevent another station from going active and beating their ass? How? Clearly there isn't some agreed upon rule saying once a station takes a format, no other station can try it too (as seen in WIOQ, WRDW, WUSL, WPHI). If WYSP are half assing it so badly, why couldnt WRDW flip to a complete 24/7 truly active format? Wouldn't that seemingly be better than what WYSP has? They're preventing nothing.

And two rumors that are pretty much fact that I'd like to toss out- Kidd Chris will eventually be dropping the music (anywhere from a few weeks to around Christmas, so...) and the current WYSP watered-down-WMMR playlist is only a buffer in their return to rock, and will change up in the near future.

And as for Rage, that's personal opinion, just be glad you've got two other stations to check out until the Rage is over.

I look at it this way. If you owned a restaurant in Philly that thrived consistently for years (for whatever reason.) Always the best restaurant in Philly, always packed, people just loved everything about the food. Imitators popped up, but still (for whatever reason) could not do the same business. Now, all of the sudden, the corporate owner of the restaurant decides to fire the chef because they think they can somehow make it even better...he has a whole different menu. Within two years, they go from the best restaurant to the worst (for whatever reason is irrelevant.) Now it doesn't take a braniac here...hmmm...what would be the most logical thing to do to salvage the restaurant...to please the people of Philly...to get them to come back and enjoy the menu they loved consistenly (for whatever reason?)

And I agree, the Coaches Show and Temple are 2 items never ordered.

Awesome analogy! ;D

The Temple coverage is probably something that they're contractually obligated to carry. Without knowing the details of how CBS Radio drew up the contract with Temple, it is quite possible that they cannot just bump the games to a different station. As for the Coaches Show - it could be the same deal.

You can bet that Temple will be moved off as soon as it can be. The Eagles, on the other hand, fit well with the format and will probably be a permanent fixture on the station. CBS does the same thing with the Patriots on WBCN - and it's an arrangement that has worked really well for them there too.

If you look at the weekly schedule 1210 AM THE BIG TALKER will air the Temple game this sat.I think WYSP has the game this past sat. because of the Phillies. Go Phillies !

Not true, I did enjoy the Hawk, they were so much better than "chicken rock", MGK, when I was in the mood for Classic Rock. In fact, I would e-mail the female in the afternoon (forgot her name at the moment), a few times a month for requests, and she did play them and answered all my e-mails, which was the sign of a true professional, she went to Frank-FM. She was the only Classic Rock jock that would play Dangerous Type by the Cars which is a great song. YSP's best years was when they flipped to Active from Classic in 1996, with DeBella, Cerf then Toxic and Grease started to play music on his piped in shift. They are a shell of their former self, if they intend to make it, they have to open up the playlist, just my 2 cents worth.

let kidd do whatever the hell it is that he does. Pale imitation of what it was

Actually not true at all. If you ask WYSP management and/or those who know, Couzin Ed had 3 times the ratings Kidd does now. Eye and/or ear opener.

I'm no Kidd Chris fan, but you have to consider who was on in mornings when Couzin Ed was on in afternoons versus who is on in mornings now.

Absolutely. But, keep in mind, as much as everyone attributes WYSP's success of the past to Howard, other rock stations nationwide that carried him did not do nearly as well as WYSP did in other day parts. They certainly WERE doing something right.
