The Rovers - Wasn't That A Party (Particular Version)

I posted this on the Buffalo-Rochester forum but it's getting no traction (but I'd still like to seek answers).

In Buffalo, New York (on WBEN-FM (Rock 102) and WBEN-AM in late 1980), I had heard The Rovers "Wasn't That A Party"; yet this version was sans the siren during the refrain, and had an extended fade. There was a tad of reverb on this version too.

It would seem that if this were a custom version, it would have been difficult to remove a sound from a 2-track recording (such as a siren SFX). Would anyone in the Buffalo NY area know where WBEN obtained this version?

Jody, I was going to point you to Top 40 Music On CD... LOL!!!

Wish I could be of some help on this one. I don't have a clue. I agree that a local station pulling an instrument out of a finished recording would be nearly impossible.

The song was originally released in 1981. The version you heard in the late '80s could have been re-recorded. The Rovers changed record companies several times.

No no - late 1980 (not late 1980s). And it was released at the end of the year. So it would have been around the charting time of the song.
