The "Russ Martin Show" is Missing One Ingredient from the Recipe

The RMS is the best thing on between 6:13AM and 9:54AM. For Russ to achieve the greatness he had at the pinnacle of his career he needs to find the " missing ingredient in his recipe". For all the smart as..es it is not talent. He needs a binding agent. A focal point that will drive the "treehouse" each day form day to day and week to week. The first three weeks have been like a really great family reunion. Reminiscing at times of all the "old great tales" from lore before. Hopefully, Russ and the gang will find a niche that will trend toward greatness once more. Please do not get me wrong RMS is the best thing on radio between 6:13AM and 9:54AM but after 20 months I want to hear more about for example when Dan left the FAN what did they say? I want to hear new bits. Before CLO would never shut up. Now he says absolutely nothing. Russ needs a new whipping boy outside the current crew. Why does he not call JD and talk to him on the air? Dan is doing a great job but he is too sharp to be the whipping boy. I also wish RUSS would take more calls from the listeners. At times they are funny. Where is Black Eddie? There are a lot of questions to be answered that would be compelling radio. I welcome input form the Russ followers and supporters. Others need not apply.

Earlier in the week Russ revealed on air that JD Ryan's real name is John A. Bibbs... Doesn't sound like Russ and John are still close. ;)

No real revelation that, it's a known.

I think it's funny that you only want feedback from Russ fans and supporters. I would think one would want feedback from those who have real criticism, not just sycophants. But, I will tell you this, being neither a fan nor a supporter, but without an agenda, Russ is the best thing on, to you. The Musers, Kidd, 2 recent Marconi nominees and countless others currently deemed "better" by ratings standards until Russ get some numbers of his own. That being said, you won't see any "new" offerings from Russ, because that isn't what he does. Name 1 ground breaking concept Russ has EVER introduced, I love his foundation for fallen Police officers, Bubba The Love Sponge started that years before Russ. Blowing stuff up, Bubba. News during the show, Howard. Russ was spinning records (really, records) while Howard was creating the concept he has been using for the past 10 years.

Here is the REAL question, will his previous followers follow in a time slot not conducive to their schedule? Can (will) they listen? While there weren't a lot of them, they listened a lot!

Russ will eventually rebuild, it will just take longer than most people think - see Bo & Jim. Radio has significantly less financial value today than the LIVE 105.3 days and it should continue to diminsh as Russ inches back to competitive levels. How many of you reach for your smartphone in the morning instead of a clock radio?

My guess is that CC is putting some lipstick on their pig in the hope that they can attract Howard next year.

Back in the mid 80's I sold JD/John Bibbs some headphones back at CMC Electronics at the Irving Mall and saw hsi real name on his credit card. He came in the store a number of times and was always a nice guy to work with.

I was fretting when I heard the Russ was coming back to mornings. Musers or Russ, how would I listen to both? Luckily the courage boys were on vacation so I was able to give Russ a listen and boy did it suck! He ran that Mel Gibson audio into the ground and now he is on an Imus kick? Bad show, plain and simple, trying to live on past glory, not working, I don’t even think he made me crack a smile when I listened.

I tune in when the Ticket is in commercials and it is the same old stuff, he has nothing original and 3 cronies who kiss his ass and worship everything he does. If you like that, have at it, but the best thing on between 6:13AM and 9:54AM, don’t make me laugh.

I disagree ET... I have started my day off laughing in the mornings since Russ returned. When they go to spots I flip between Jody Dean and what's left of Jagger (although I have to admit that hairy Barsky is growing on me - that sounded gross) I do miss Jimmy, Sam, Mondo & of course the greatness that is Dean Lewis! Anyway, I can listen to local & live FWD without listening to spots!!! :)

Know what ya mean.

I was a serious listener in the Live days and was devastated when 105.3 flipped. Now, true, I had begun to drift away from RMS in favor of the Ticket for a few years leading up to that and since the flip my affinity for the Courage Boys, Norman Elizabeth Hitzges, BADD Radio, and the Hardline has hardened like concrete.

I took a listen of Russ on 97.1 a couple of weeks ago and it just wasn't the same as the old days. Don't know what it is exactly, but, it didn't sound or feel like those glory days back in 2003 when there just wasn't anything else like the RMS.

I'm sure I'll be checking in again and maybe something will spark again but......
