Interestingly, nobody has mentioned being scared by that lion logo.

I sure did....one of the early post.....btw....all the logos....that i have mentioned, the H-B swirling star, 20th Television Fox, and MGM are beautiful logos......when muted Some logos, like those MCA logos were all around terrifying....


Yeah I think the old PBS logo is neat and weird to look at...that font....but yeah I prepared myself as a 5 year old for that at the end of SS. And lets not forget, PBS station WGBH.......AHHHHHHH

I used to avoid "Huntley-Brinkley" because of that NBC News logo, not so much the animation and fanfare, but after the last note the announcer-usually Bill Hanrahan, sometimes Bill McCord-, whenever intoning that the show was "produced by NBC News which is solely responsible for its content", sounded like a very stern father scolding a bratty child. However, I liked the version at the end of the peacock net's special news events, while it had the same animation and music, with Mel Brandt speaking the same exact words while the "snake" transformed into the NBC News stack before the tune ended.

I remember wanting to get a cat after seeing the kitty meowing at the end of The Mary Tyler Moore Show on that MTM logo. For a long time, I thought "MTM" stood for "Mary Tyler Moore."
Years later, I saw that same logo on the end of episodes of St. Elsewhere, only this time the meowing kitty was wearing surgical scrubs! ;D

As far as I know, MTM did mean "Mary Tyler Moore" -- I think at the time, she was co-owner of the company.
Also, the MTM cat had many variants over the years, especially from the late-1970s onward, to fit the particular program -- more here:

"MTM" did stand for Mary Tyler Moore. The company was created to produce her own show, then The Bob Newhart Show and Rhoda. The company later branched out into other comedies and dramas. Mary's (then) husband Grant Tinker ran the company, if I remember correctly.
I assume everybody realizes that this was meant to be a little homage or parody to the MGM logo, which featured a roaring lion.

I had just always assumed that the "MTM" stood for "Metro Television Mayer" with the "Television" replacing "Goldwyn" in much the same way that "Television" replaces "Century" (literally in this example) in the 20th Century Fox logo. Was it just me, or were the rest of you also expecting them to change their name to "21st Century Fox" in 2000?

I thought the studio had a serious discussion on changing the name with the new millenium, only to discard the idea on familiarity issues?
