The S-Word made it to Fox- Fine coming?

Hope this doesn't mean I now have to run my NASCAR Race broadcasts on delay. Today on Fox TV they ran a conversation live between the driver and his crew chief. The crew chief was trying to calm the driver down and told his driver that the other guy was full of S%#@. They quickly dumped out of the feed and an announcer came on and said, we apologize for the language of the crew chief and they moved on with the broadcast. Will this mean an instant fine for Fox? Should I now run my MRN & PRN feeds in delay with my board ops hand on the button? Oh the joys of listening in on conversations between players and coaches in a live setting...

LOL THAT was hilarious...they didn't dump out of the feed where I was though...they aired the whole conversation and then they apologized after the crew chief was done talking...

I was like "wait...did he just say that for real?"

As the station licensee, YOU are responsible for insuring your broadcasts are profanity-free. So if your syndicator isn't delaying the feed for profanity removal - then yes, you will have to run your race broadcasts (and other live feeds) on delay.

There's been times where I've clearly heard profanities from sports fans at baseball and football games broadcasted - but I've never heard of a station being fined for that. In this post-Boobgate age, however, that could change.

Why not treat this like they do with NFL ... they tape the interaction and then air it a little bit later after they're sure it's clean enough to air or when they have had a dry run to know when to dump dialogue. The audio of crew/driver is not so timely that it HAS to run real-time when it is essentially contributing more to the color commentary.

Video takes from inside cars (sans dialogue), however, ARE timely and make more sense as part of "live" coverage.

I think it's cool to be able to hear that. I'd kill to hear some of the non-delayed conversations on the mound come baseball season.

Of course, now my cat has been scarred for life for hearing the s-word. *sigh* Please FCC, save my cat's delicate ears!

As far as I'm concerned, who cares about a single word like s--t that you hear every day on school playgrounds. Anyone who's into NASCAR and hangs out at the sports bars watching the races every Sunday has heard worse things around them.

And if anyone complains, then maybe they're not actual NASCAR fans and are just looking to cause trouble anyway.

And as NASCAR fans tend to be very conservative, do you think the religious pundits who are forcing these fines on broadcasters really want to make an issue out of it in this case? Let's see Jack Thompson and L. Brent Bozell insist upon fining their own base of supporters.

To me, this looks like an opportunity for liberals and otherwise anti-FCC regulation persons to fight back. Jack Thompson and L. Brent Bozell don't have to be the only ones who try to force ridiculous fines on broadcasters and stations.

By the way, Richard Roeper wrote a related article this morning that is well worth reading, for those of you interested.
