The Sacramento Spring Book is out...

...And it looks like Top 40 really rules in the market, with KSFM, KBMB and KDND taking 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively, all up in this period. Either that or Sacramento County's population must be getting younger and more diversed than ever.

Other winners in this book: KNCI, KHYL, KNTY, KSAC, KFBK, KHTK and KYMX.

As for KGBY, they're sure not so hot with "MY 92.5." Other major drops came from KSEG, KQJK, KRXQ and KSTE.

Some observations

13 Percent is close to what the combined CHR & Rhythmic CHR shares are normally in Sacramento. One thing to notice is that the ethnic placement and controls really favored KHYL, KBMB and KSFM in this book.

It will be interesting to see how all of the market stations rank in the important demos (other than 12+ and 55+ ) demos.

The Spanish language share is consistently twice what it was in the mid 90's

Another thing of note....KSAC had it's highest book ever since launching the progressive talk format. Not bad for a weak signal. In fact, the last time the station had a share that high was around the time 1240 KROY dropped it's Top 40/ CHR format in favor of Adult Rock back in 1981. KROY dropped from around an 8 share in the fall of 1978 to around a 2 in the Fall of 1980 or Spring of 1981.

The irony is that the KSAC format was dropped in favor of Gospel (KRJY) just two days prior to the end of this rating period.

It really looks like KGBY just handed KYMX most of it's numbers. Mix is considerably more upbeat than they were 6 months ago, wonder if that was to court the disenfranchised Y listeners? Zone could have maybe taken a page from that book and skewed a bit less current and more familiar. It's not getting any better over there. Time to make major changes to that brand. The old guard and old ideas may need to go.

You're not the only one who's surprised by this shakeup among the AC stations. I think Clear Channel made a huge mistake in altering KGBY's direction. As for KYMX, I like how they freshened up the music. KZZO does need to do something, and not just in mornings.

Back to the subject of Sacramento Top 40s, if there was one station that seem to have improve the most, KSFM wins hands down. Its nice to see them open up their playlist a little, which is also happening at other Rhythmics as of late.

I'm also stunned by KSAC's format flip before the numbers came out. Personally, they should've waited before they jumped the gun.

As for the demos, I'm dying to see where they rank, too.

Can anybody rank station's by daypart and by demo? I know posting real numbers is a no no, but can anybody fill me in? I am most curious about the KDND show since they were in my backyard before leaving to Sacramento. I've followed their show from the start and am wondering how they are catching on, or not catching on with the Sacramento listeners. If anybody has this info, please post.

The title of the post is the "Spring Book"... that doesn't come until June right?

The title was a error. It wasn't corrected in time.

But then again, it could be revisited in June....

Ratings don't matter if there's nobody selling. Ya gotta have someone shaking the trees for spot orders, and from posts here from folks like coppersmom... there wasn't anybody doing that.

I was there at the beginning for about a year (commuting from San Francisco) and truthfully the only thing that comes to mind are two things....The Joy I had working with Christine Craft who is a class act and......

the plot for a new screen play......

Is why R.A.D ain't going anywhere besides syndication

Those aren't morning numbers, though. I wonder why the Eagle did so poorly. Was it Mark & Brian or another daypart? I've heard The Eagle promoting their ESPN station going into spots...perhaps they should promote the Eagle on the Eagle going into spots.
