The sad final end of Robin and Maynard

The website is now finally gone.

I know it has been awhile since they were on the air and their time is Seattle is done, but there are still many fans in Seattle who still and always will miss them. They did NOT get the send off they deserved, as their show was truly one of the best Seattle ever had. As I always explained to people who were non listeners, it was radio you could see.

I say good day Madam Fabulina and Maynardo, you are truly in the Seattle Radio Hall of Fame in many eyes.

And God Bless Roy Otis!

Definitely one of the best. They were radio's version of Seinfeld, but unfortunately for us, the CW won't be carrying old Robin and Maynard shows!
 
Based on what I remember about their ratings while on the air in Seattle, the number of views or posts on this topic here is also about the sum total of cume that ever listened to them. Between Pat Cashman and Robin and Maynard combined, one would pull a 2 share. Enjoy your memories..
 
I'll never forget listening to Robin & Maynard after work on the afternoon of September 11, 2001 while driving through the nearly desolate streets of downtown Seattle. For me they provided just the voices I needed to hear as I tried to make sense of things that offsetting afternoon.

As I recall, this was just as R&M were making the transition from the morning show to afternoons, as they made way for Bob Rivers and company. What a lineup KZOK had until R&M left to go to The Buzz.

Robin and Dave's home is still up for sale in WS, maybe they have a offer. I know they are set to make the move to Montana.

Really! So where do I say I hate Robin and Maynard Bong? The fact is in reality I don't hate anything... Well okay I find people who make gross generalizations and untrue statements particularly annoying, but hate? No.

I don't mean to entirely rain on your parade, but the facts are that shows like R&M, Pat Cashman, etc., who aren't on anymore, were all underperforming and expensive morning shows. Once again, I'm just injecting the truth.

Folks, the guru is absolutely correct here. As romantic as it is to reminisce on the "good ol' days" of Seattle radio, it comes down to what it's always come down to: Dollars and cents.

If K&A, Rivers, Ichabod, etc. weren't making money for their employers they'd be in the "good ol' days" club too.

Well, since you're the self-proclaimed guru, please tell me how R&M managed to carve out a 20-year career with such a lousy share.
 
I find it amusing how people wax nostalgic for Robin & Maynard and Cashman. R&M were great on KZOK. They were great with music, but the truth is, they couldn't do a straight talk show without music. That was the beginning of the end for them. Cashman just wasn't that good. The numbers told the story. That's the bottom line. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Arbitron's opinion wasn't very high. End of story.
 
There has to be some finger pointing at the company they worked for people, Enercom is a JOKE! Remember, the entire station flipped, it was not just Robin and Maynard that sank the ship. The whole idea of "radio for guys" had to come to an end eventually. You can only bash women and talk about your private parts for so long before people start turning the dial. I never listened to any other show on that station once R&M were off air. My guess is it would have tanked alot sooner had they not made the move to the Buzz.

My guess is most people who did not like them A) Did not get their humor or 2) were never as successful as they were in radio. Just my opinion.

I hope one day some of their material will available to listen too, it was damn good radio.

I would say the domain name <robinandmaynard.com> has a few more problems than a remodel. It looks like it's owned by somebody else who snatched it up when the internet web fees ran out.

I still show it being owned by Dave (Robin's Husband) and his company (Promo Sapien) until 2012.

At the time R&M were at KXRX I was at another radio group out of the area, but I was privy and knew many of the management members at Shamrock corporate, including some of the philosophy that kept R&M there for quite a while. Like many group owners, Shamrock corporate management relied on the local manager and program director to manage their budget and make the programming calls. The GM (who by the way is a great guy) at KXRX truly believed in R&M from a personal perspective and believed that if they just kept at it, they would eventually climb in ratings. All the while, R&M built more tenure and so went their compensation. Eventually the cost of keeping the show on the air with mediocre, ever declining ratings became just as difficult to justify paying what they were commanding. Add in some infighting behind the scenes and the handwriting was on the wall. The run ended when the Disney family decided to sell the Shamrock radio properties, and there was nobody to protect them further.

From what I understand KQBZ took them on in an attempt to drive some quick ad dollars with advertisers who used to advertise or remember R&M previously on KZOK and KXRX. The idea was to bring in the male demos, primarily with Robin's rather sultry style. The problem is the show picked up where they left off at KXRX with recycled material, just on another station. When the performance and ratings were not what was expected, the infighting started up again and bad blood formed between management and the show.

I'm sure there are insiders with more detail, but the reality is the shows ratings pretty well tracked with what went on over there. It was truly a situation where the inmates ran the asylum for a while and ultimately that formula never pans out.
