The Scholastic Games

Jim Merhling hosting "The Scholastic Games" is now on 1380, WDLW. I heard it Tuesday evening. Previously, it was a long-time feature on AM 930, WEOL. I also heard mentions of a number of other programs, presumably talk shows, that are on at night. I hope that the station is making good money from the sale of these time-slots to the clients. I wasn't sure if "The Scholastic Games" was a paid-for program when it was on WEOL. What about WDLW?

I have never heard of The Scholastic Games. Is that sorta like that old high school quiz show on WEWS that Don Webster hosted at some point.....I can't remember the darn name of it.

It is actually an offshoot of the Whiz Kids show Jim Mehrling hosted at WERE 1300 in the late 1980s (and might have aired on WCLV at some point?). Very similar setup to the school quiz shows WEWS has aired over the years.

The Scholastic Games debuted over WEOL in 1991 and ran on that station on a seasonal basis for 34 years; Mehrling was an announcer at WEOL in the late 1960s/early 1970s.

Are you thinking of "Academic Challenge"?

If I was thinking of "Academic Challenge" I would have said it. But I couldn't think of the name of it so that's why I didn't say it. But yeah, NOW I'm thinking of it.
