The Second Coming of "Dr." Laura?

First Philly. Now "Dr." Laura picks up her second top 10 market affiliate this week. This one is Salem in Dallas. Salem + "Dr." Laura! A marriage made in __________?
All Access:
The Word/Dallas Adds Dr. Laura
SALEM Religious Talk KWRD (THE WORD 100.7)/DALLAS adds TAKE BACK THE DAY syndicated DR. LAURA SCHLESSINGER for 2-4p weekdays, beginning THURSDAY (6/22). DR. LAURA was previously heard in the market on crosstown CUMULUS Talk KLIF-A.

Meanwhile, a few days ago Lifetime re-ran the Frasier episode with Christine Baranski playing "Dr. Nora." A "gym teacher" who called callers "sluts." Priceless. ;D

She didn't really add a top-10 market... she merely moved. KLIF may be a middle-feeder, but will this new station be any better? OK, so it's on FM... she might get more of the female listenership, but as far as signal, KLIF is a blowtorch and not hindered by the band.

She's coming out of the religious closet... finally. But who is listening to her these days? She's been buried here in western NY to regional low powered AM stations. Her day came and went.

She's been making a big deal of her religious convictions for some time. The fact that she does, makes her a natural fit for Salem (and other religious broadcasters). I'm surprised it took her affiliation sales people this long to figure that out.

What is curious is Clear Channel (maybe) putting her on a new fem talk FM in Philly, along with Whoopi and maybe Rollye James (who has just been picked up by 810 WGY). They've also got John Tesh, who courts the religious community. But "Dr. Laura" ain't Delilah.

Maybe Schelesinger could do something on a sports station. She is qualified to talk about topics like how to deal shin splints and the importantce of stretching.

Yep, #2 12+ in LA, where 1/3 of the market doesn't understand a word she's saying. How long's it been on KFI... a decade? She's really dead in the water.

Show of hands of those here who've had shows on KFI.

Maybe a sinking ship, but in an age of music formats dying, more niche talk means more opportunities for Dr. Laura. Perhaps the water is starting to sink now, too.
