The Second Most Annoying Thing In Dallas Radio...

...Listening to all these financial Gurus paying big bucks to be on KRLD and being interrupted by the "Doinks" and "Dings" of Windows while mouse clicking!

Every weekend this month I've heard them. I've also heard them during newscasts!

I am assuming that some of them are on live and would catch it. God forbid they are recording it and totally missing this! (Is your show being recorded, Ernie?)

Don't know if they are surfing the net on air or what. I will gladly show them how to mute the sounds for a nominal fee! ;D

Totally unprofessional guys!

Who ever the board op is needs to turn the pot off. Or at least pot it down. I hear that on other shows and it drives me nuts.

For some of the "show hosts" (there's a term I use lightly), it's called show prep.
As far as the stations are concerned, The only show prep is..... Did the 'financial guru's" check clear the bank! ;D

Someone once checked their AOL mail on an on-air computer. So you're listening to the station, and right in the middle (I forgot if it was a spot, or what) you hear "YOU'VE GOT MAIL".

But yeah. there IS a way to turn windows sounds off. That'd be a good idea :)

This is one of those circumstances where a MacBook or a laptop can come quite in handy...

In defense of all stations that have non-staff weekend shows, many of the show hosts bring in their own laptops. I refuse to touch a "clients" laptop since if it "hic-cups" it's my fault. Call me chicken, but it's cheaper than paying for a laptop if it craps out after I've turned of the windows sound theme..

It's like the time I was setting up a remote at a local chain restaurant years ago. I had to run a line from de-mark all the way through the place. When I was done the manger said "You Killed our SAT TV". Well after several hours of troubleshooting I finally found out they had not PAID THE SAT TV BILL. By sheer coincidence the service was terminated while I was running my line.

A half day shot in the *** because it was "My Fault". Lesson learned, don't touch, look, or work around stuff that's not yours. LOL

I would've thought it was KLUV's messed up RDS.
EL VIS is NOT how your supposed to display ELVIS.

The major flaw with RDBS is the fact that it is a "dumb" system dumb as in no means of rec/ack to verify data display. In other words if you happen to hit a low signal area and the 57khz sub-carrier RDS Data packet(s) is not read in total, you will see RDBS ding outs in the display. Since the US car radio system PScroll mode uses character blocks there is a size limit per block of 8 characters with a max total of 64.

I've seen instances when I program a text string a letter will jump over into the next block even though the block count was correct. It dives me nuts, but it is what it is.

I've been using RDS since 105.3 was "Young Country" I think we were the first with a programmable system albeit via RS232. However it would not link to the automation which was OK since we ran CD's and carts until just before the format change.

If you can display Radio Text (marque scrolling) and the fault still happens it could be a case of "fat figure syndrome" on the programming keyboard... It happens....
Since you mentioned Elvis was this on the KLUV-HD2 PAD display?
You can PM me if you wish.
Thanks!!!
