THE SELF ABSORBED MIDDAY DIVAS

Is it me or is there a tendency for female djs to sound like everything is about them?
Middays are for the most part handled by females which is odd because I've always heard women don't like listening to women but the with the exception of Kristin Lessard on Coast who doesn't sound this way because she's voicetracked and Jessica Tyler on Cat Country who sounds more down to earth, everyone sounds overly impressed with themselves.A prime example is PRO-FM's Jessica who is doing a good job but seems to be operating in a different galaxy than the rest of the world.I actually heard her once say a salesperson stopped her in the hall and told her how good she sounds. The rest are pretty much the same to a lesser extent but is this"it's all about me"attitude a turnoff to anyone else?

Well, I have to say, as far as good looking jock are, (and there are not many of them) I wouldn't throw Jessica out of bed for eating cookies! Or is it crackers?? I get those two food items confused ALL THE TIME.....

And yes, she does sound good......but not really date-able....what guy could stand her talking about herself all through a first date.....

Let her yap away on a Date. I prefer to concentrate on eating and not talking anyway. The more that she talks, the less that I have to. lol

Couldn't have said it better myself. ;D

As for the yapping, wait until the PPM comes to Providence. Every PD in town will preach the phrase "on and gone" to their jocks.

The topic isn't lame. Responding with something that has nothing to do with radio is but that's what happens when you're obsessed with responding to everything. As far as the PPM I've heard it's showing that an open mike=tune out.

I agree totally...nothing lame about it at all. And an open mic is a tune out only if the words are... And i agree with the fact that some of the women in CHR radio that sound like they are doing listeners a favor by being there...not so much with AC stations. Maybe its the delivery.

My sister stopped listening to Fun 107 a year or so ago because as she put it.....the girl thats on thinks she poops roses....or something like that....is she still there?

If it's Christine Fox she still part times but I don't think she sounds that into herself. She's really better than what's on in Providence. I don't know about Sharon in the morning because I can't stand the show and don't listen enough. Jenn on HJY also sounds real and doesn't sound like she puts herself on a pedestal. Too bad we don't have more women on here with an opinion but I do think some sound like they really want to say "don't you wish you were me?" I know some guys have big egos but most don't let it come across over the air.

Well this is an interesting topic. I certainly can't comment on anything on air in Providence (I live in NY and haven't streamed in quite a long time) but what a fabulous topic that's come up, is it JUST the females that have long winded, self centered breaks or is this a problem among all jocks in the market? I can't wait to listen tomorrow.

I hope we're not generalizing all female jocks as being self centered on air, as that's certainly not the case. I believe that there are certain hurdles female jocks have to clear with their listeners (if they're catering to a female demographic). I completely disagree with the whole, women hate listening to other women theory, but I do feel that female jocks have a very short amount of time to become "friends" or "enemies" with the listener.....however you need to get on their good side (be chatty, open up, self deprication) get it done...but most importanly get out of the break in a logical fashion.

Just my little thought..

interesting topic...but I do believe that the whole thing behind being an "on-air personality" is one's personality..I've never listened to Jessica before, but--thats her personality...ya don't hang out with people ya don't like..so don't listen to them...I think it's great that a dj is comfortable enough to share their personal life on-air ...for the most part, all I ever hear are jocks that know "when (insert band name here) is playing in concert..where..when their cd is out...(insert more rambling artist info)...anyone can do that..all they need to do is do some internet surfing...for the most part, on any station I listen to regularly, I couldn't name 3 things about that DJ that would be considered "personal"...It is important though, that the jock find the right combination of "personality" and artist info..too much personality can make people think you're "too into" yourself....don't be quick to judge...being comfortable with yourself and having a high level of self-esteem are good qualities for a jock..and ALWAYS remember---most of the time, the personality your listening to may be the exact opposite of their real personality..it's called acting..half the malarky that comes out of my mouth on the air is purely for entertainment...
