"The Shield" - Season 4

N

I must say "The Shield" is probably one of the better shows on television right now (regardless of what one think of the violence and language in it...it's one freaking cable after 10pm ET). If I were to make a list of the Top 5, this would definitely be in it (along with "Nip/Tuck" also on FX).

This past season was excellent. Casting Glenn Close (who left the show, unfortunately) as the Chief and casting Anthony Anderson as a main player this season were great casting moves. I thought Anderson did an impressive job and his role this past season in "The Shield" should definitely cast him better movie roles, outside of the pathetic ones he's had recently. I thought he proved himself as a great dramatic actor in this past season.

My only gripe with this show is that it only runs 13 episodes a season. I don't know if it's the producers or the network or both, but I wish that this show would run the regular amount of episodes (22/23 episodes) that make up a "regular" season on the broacast networks.

With "The Shield", "Rescue Me" and "Nip/Tuck" all established and popular shows on FX, I think if they extended these show to at least 20 episodes per season, they could definitely have something going with airing one show per weeknight at 10pm ET.

Anyone else's thoughts on this past season who actually watched it. Not really interested in hearing what one thinks of the violence or language on a CABLE show that airs at night.

I couldn't agree with you anymore. I haven't been able to watch most of the Season 4 so far because of work, but when I saw Glen Close coming in, I thought she would be too week and even offset the show. She has made it really edgy. She's overly aggresive in this show.

The Shield needs to make a movie and move to network television. It's really THAT good.<P ID="signature">______________

I am in total agreement that “The Shield” is perhaps one of the best shows on TV. And I also agree that it’s a disappointment the program only airs 13 episodes. Unless one is a die hard fan, by the time the new season starts, most people have forgotten the previous plots.

This is the same baloney HBO pulls with The Sopranos. That show hasn’t been on in over a year and the new series isn’t expected to air until the spring of 2006.

It wasn’t that long ago that the regular TV season started in September and ended in March, then would come reruns. Now the good programs start later in the year and end before the start of summer. And with a majority of the programs on TV today either reality shows or CSI clones, it would be nice to have more episodes of great programs like The Shield and Sopranos.

I had not heard that Glenn Close was leaving show. Can you provide more details on that? Michael Chicklis deserves another Emmy for his portrayal as Vic Mackey.

Glenn Close had said that she decided to not continue because she has a daughter in high school in NY

as long as they keep showing reruns from the other seasons, I'll be happy. I own seasons 1 and 2 on dvd, need to get season 3
