The Shoe Drops On Footy

Flies on the wall buzzing loudly about Footy being dropped from the WIOD lineup entirely.

What are they even doing over there at this point? Over the course of the last 3-4 months, they have fired the 3 hosts of the only live programs they even have in the WIOD/WINZ grouping - first, Dave Lamont; then, Nicole Sandler; now, Footy.

Looks like they are out of scapegoats and excuses.

How much longer before Charles in no longer in charge?

 This sucks! I don't live in the area, but I loved Footy's show and downloaded the podcasts everyday. They are already gone, along with any mentions of Footy from the website and now they have Glenn Beck listed in that timeslot. I hope Footy lands back on the air somewhere else. He had a great, fun show that wasn't the typical political crap non-stop.

The podcasts are still up, but not showing from the main page. If you do a google search, it'll take you to the Footy pages from wiod.com. I doubt they'll be active for very long.

I actually really liked Footy, the meet market was pure brilliance. His show was probably one of most unique shows on a CC AM station. In a time when you can hear Beck, Limbaugh, Medved etc right across the country, it's nice to hear something that is so unabashedly South Florida.

:( I have to admit, I am saddened and surprised to hear that Footy is gone from WIOD. Frankly, I was disappointed when Footy replaced Glenn Beck, but I grew to admire his frank and honest journalism, and his open minded and unbridled approach to the topics. I first heard Footy on WGY in Albany, NY in the Seventies when he was a sports reporter. I was never a sports fan, but I really enjoyed his energy and perspective. He made things that I was not interested in seem interesting. I remember that each spring he would go to Ft. Lauderdale and cover the Yankees spring training camp. One year he never returned. It wasn't till I move to Ft. Lauderdale in '84 that I figured out that he "found a home" here.

I hope Footy finds an outlet for his fresh and honest perspective. I wish him the best.

And here I thought Clear Channel Miami was actually going to commit more time on their two talkers to local programming. How stupid of me. Guess it's back to plugging the satellite feeds in.

Thank you, Mr. Charles, for ridding WIOD of Mr. Footy!

I could barely listen for more than a few minutes to Footy's inane chatter. His slurring of words indicated that he neither thinks clearly nor cares about communicating to others what passes for thought. Weak ideas, poorly delivered: this is talent?

I've stopped listening to WJNO's (1290 AM) weak Broward daytime signal during 9:00 am -> Noon and have returned to WIOD. While Glenn Beck's occasional sacharine moments are embarassingly bad, his show's combination of a quick wit and hilarious production pieces is hard to beat.

Yeah, Glenn Beck. Another right wing, self rightous, political windbag. Just what we need more of. ::)

Footy's probably a nice guy. I like the subjects he talked about, but the way he handled it was AWFUL. First of all, he pretty much agreed with everyone who called. What kind of talk show is that? :)

Basically, he had a big contract that CC had to pay, they gave him the talk show because he's well connected with advertisers, the economy is in the toilet, his advertisers dried up and he got too expensive. And with (so I hear) poor ratings, it just didnt work anymore.

Bet they asked him to move to mornings (which probably would have been a good fit for him) and he said "no." That was probably the way they could get out of paying him. Probably a clause in the contract that they could move him.

So, we get another syndicated, marginal show back on WIOD that they can move to the FM dial.

They're totally syndicated now except for mornings, right?

Who is left that's live and local anymore? (on stations that get at least some ratings) Pretty much just sports guys and Neal Rogers, right?

One example of a common trend in talk radio. Stations that get syndication guilt hire one local host -- ONE -- and it's not the best choice. WWBA in Tampa picked someone whose background was in infomercials and home shopping -- clueless about the dynamics of radio talk. Fortunately, they didn't give up on local talk and hired someone else who had more of a clue. Don't expect such a positive outcome with IOD. :(

IOD is, yes. and WINZ is now 100% syndicated on weekdays after dropping Nicole Sander for Don Imus.

Footy sounded terrible, but I still would've liked it if the station had planned to bring in another local talent. Even WTKS-FM in Orlando brought a local host back to evenings.

I heard from a reliable source that Footy WAS offered the morning show, but
turned it down because he didn't want to return to the "4:00 AM alarm" lifestyle.
I think he will return to the airwaves in some capacity, but who knows where and when.
