The Short-Term Future for Steve & Vikki

A couple of questions...

With Vickie coming back without Steve is there likely to be listener anger toward her much like what has been spewed forth to Leno by Conan fans?

Also, I know S&V have been business partners for 20 plus years. With Steve getting the heave ho and her staying, what might this do their friendship?

Also, what will the station say to people who call or email and ask why Steve isn't there?

They will just say he decided to resign in order to get healthy. Ever since he developed that blood clot he has been evaluating his lifestyle choices.....oh wait.....

Three hours into the Vikki solo show Monday morning on B98.5, she has not said a single thing about McCoy.

At 8:08 a.m., she did address Steve without mentioning his name. In part, she said:

"We all have to deal with changes in our lives," she said. "I wanted to talk to the listeners briefly about what's going through my head... This morning for the first time in over 20 years, I'm talking without my long-time friend and on-air husband. I want to pay tribute to the guy who taught me so much about radio... While the years have flown by and all the great times will stay with me. I just want to say, I will always be your friend."

Yet she couldn't mention Steve McCoy's name. Stay classy Cox Radio.

The good ole PPM hath spoken. Wonder which radio show will suddenly get castrated next?
Give it a couple of years and see how many millions of posts will be devoted to "these were
the REAL last good years of radio." Pure and simple...live by the PPM. Die by it. And the "people"
have spoken. Just in 15 second soundbites....

Unless there is a contract reason, (only the people at Cox would Know) she should have left with Steve.

Easy to spend other people's money huh?

Seems like I heard that Vikki's husband is looking for work. That's a lot of motivation to stick around, even in a bad situation. :(

I hate to see Steve get fired,in the last two years all the Steve's on Atlanta radio with the exception of Southside Steve have been fired. First it was Steve Craig at 99X,then Steve Mitchell over at Eagle 106.7 and now Steve from Steve and Vicki. Now no one will beat Rhubarb Jones as the longest runinng morning drive radio personality in Atlanta.

When I started in radio (back in the early 1970’s) my first manager told me to always put one third of my take home pay in savings. Mr. Gray said with all the flakey people in the business some day you will need it. I didn’t mean anyone should become destitute (there is a post about her husband). Posters on this board have stated that cutting S & V saved Cox over mid six figures and I assumed Vickie got half. As I stated, she might something in her contract “making her work the whole contract at Cox’s request” to get severance. I guess 98.5 is trying to make a “smooth” transition to music intensive AM drive after seeing what happen to NBC with the Tonight Show mess. I missed a really good job in 1995 because a station’s COL (not the tower) was within 3 miles of the non-compete distance of my contract. My lawyer said “it is always best of honor your contract even if it is with not so honorable people” (I am not bashing Cox just a quote). I honored my contract which expired 5 months later. My advice: have a good experienced lawyer go over any contract you sign.

Not to get political here but I bet health insurance probably plays a big part in it. All joking aside she did have the issue a few years back with the clot. Her husband is out of work. The last thing you want is two people being out of work and one gets a health crisis.

Hard to believe the kind of money she made for all of these years and no children to boot she should be able to retire comfortably if she wanted to.
