The shrinking of Live 105

Music library has been reduced 30% since January 1. Safer new music getting played more. Coldplay, Keane getting airplay over Aaron's usual tasty choices. The mainstreaming has begun.

How big was the library to begin with? If it was 500 songs, 30% is even more significant than if they trimmed the fat from a 2500 song library.

(That's not to say that 30% isn't significant, regardless of the starting number...)

Approximately 550 songs down to 365. From a report published on a website used by record companies to track airplay.

Haven't you heard that today's audience's don't want to hear more than 250 songs played on any station! They don't want variety at all just the same 250 songs over and over and over and over and over.....etc.

....at least you guys have the format. It it an endangered species here on the east coast. New York, Philly, Wahsington, Hartford all lost their alt. formats. I listen to Live 105 online. I hope the mainstreaming doesnt go too far.

People often say that like real wide playlists but in almost every case a tighter playlist wins in the ratings

too true.
once the ratings go back up, live will be able to open it back up for a while. you have to do this when the ratings get bad. its just the sad truth of the business.

LIVE's ratings have fallen below the "danger line" and they're taking orders from KROQ. Look for the music to tighten up and "dumb down" even more. The PD's Active Rock heritage is showing, as well, although with CBS SF properties doing so poorly, it's doubtful any major decisions are being made locally.
