The silence is about to be broken...Ay Caramba!!!

But it will be broken in Spanish. From R&R, WALE will go on the air soon with a Spanish hits format. Technical upgrades in progress now according to Juan T. Gonzalez who was PD at WKKB. Would you say this rules out the returns of Big Ange, Arlene Violet, Glenn Laxton, & Joe Isuzu?

YAWN!!!!! Yea, ok.

The station that just refuses to die even though it's constantly on life support. I think I'm going to cry unhappy tears. I would pay someone to blow that place up if it wern't a crime to do so. I'm so sick of hearing about that station. I HATE them!

Bah....R&R is nothing more than a rumor mongering trash heap.... ;D

Maybe you'll believe it when their spots run on Ugly Betty this week.

Joe Isuzu

Serious question who is this guy Joe Isuzu? I always see his name mentioned on this board, but the other day I heard his name mentioned on Family Guy (which by the way takes place in Rhode Island).

I'm surprised (Buddy) or a character that represents him has nt shown up yet on Family Guy.

Joe Isuzu was a character played on TV commercials for Isuzu by actor David Leisure. That scene you refer to is of Leisure reciting a pre-recorded NYC taxicab message, concluding with "Can I get my check now?"

I'm sure you can find some old Joe Isuzu commercials on YouTube. Would I lie to you?

I'm not sure if the ex-local talk host was Joe or Tom Isuzu. Anyway I think it was mentioned he was related to some local politician, not that that's unusual in RI anyway. Now how many advertising dollars are even available to support 3 Spanish stations in the state in spite of the growing population? If I'm not mistaken Poder calls themselves their link to that market so this is obviously a race for sponsors. Not that that's much different than any other radio competition but in this case it's probably more a matter of endearing the station to the Spanish community. Can a 3rd station even do that at this point? It does look like this story is the first legit one about WALE we've seen here.

Wasn't WALE Spanish a couple of years ago as well? I know that they were broadcasting some mumble mouth in a different language. Is their motto... 'ONCE WE DON'T SUCCEED, TRY THE SAME DAMN THING AGAIN"?

Well, what else can you do with it if someone insists on going on the air.
Talk? Faggetabout it. No line-up is going to be competitive at this point.
Music? Who listens to music on AM?
Maybe people there with ties to the Hispanic community can at least sell spots. Arbitron considers Providence a high density Hispanic area. I just don't see 3 Spanish language stations surviving regardless of what may be subtle differences in format.

Given the emerging demographics of the market, perhaps Spanish of one stripe or another was the only logical driection to go. At least it keeps the frequency out of the hands of those who would give us yet more conservative talk, religion, or more brokered 1320-ish programming.

This new venture might do well to make a real effort to reach out to the area's African-American community, with perhaps some English language programming during the evening or on weekends. With the exception of WBRU's Sunday 360 Degree Experience program, It doesn't seem that that community is really being served.

By the way, how do you say "White Elephant" in Spanish?......Oh, wait!......That would be:
"Elefante Blanco"... ;)

Well naturally we're posting from the point of view that there's not a lot of money to spend here, not a lot of potential advertisers, & many won't pay their bill anyway...we're posting from a realistic point of view. Posting unrealistically with tons of money to spend & a crackerjack sales team that can sell it regardless of numbers, there's always a talk format aimed at a different breed of listener: Fox, Cheeks, & Rick O'B mornings, Matt Allen middays, Geoff Charles afternoons, & some radio theater at night like Twilight Zone or whatever other thriller type programs that are available.
