"The Simpsons" continues for 2 more years

Fox Television has picked up "The Simpsons" for 2 more years meaning a cartoon family will continue into their 18th and 19th years on television.

The 400th episode airs in May sometime.

If I'm not mistaken (and I could very well be mistaken), The Simpsons started out as a small part of The Tracy Ullman show years ago.

Whoda thunk it.

Poor Maggie must be getting tired of sucking that pacifier by now.

I will make the prediction now that we will see The Simpsons through the 500th and even the 600th episodes, unless FOX goes all goofy in the head. If they ever would, all the networks would jump at them, but I seriously doubt it will ever happen.

2 to 4 years from now, The Simpsons will still on FOX, Sundays at 8p.

Now, where's that movie?

Just wait until twenty years from now and they'll be on their 800th episode.<P ID="signature">______________

God I hope not. The show has already gone downhill in the last few seasons. I think this is what Jerry Seinfeld was trying to avoid when he wanted to end Seinfeld in its prime.

Re: "The Simpson" continues for 2 more years

Is the shark the Simpsons jumped still alive today? LOL!
Glad to see Simpsons still have some life in them...but no new school year for Bart and lisa?
How about Birthdays?
Lisa is still only 8? <P ID="signature">______________

Well, maybe more like 8 )....only took about two some-odd years (I think) to make it from 300 to 400.

I will still be watching if they ever hit 800 or even 1000. Now, they just need to release those DVDs faster )...not like I have made it through Season Two yet.

Yeah it's gone a bit downhill, but "The Simpsons" profits from the fact no matter how much it goes down it's still better than most of the other shows.

My biggest gripe is the lack of continuity (by this I mean things like Smithers being older, the same age and much younger than Homer, depending on the plot) and repetition of plots.

It used to be excusable in the old days but with the internet all the writers have to do is put an idea into Google and it will come up with whether that plot has been done alreay.

Although it must seem a bit stange to kids that were like 3 when "The Simpsons" debuted. They have never known a TV life without "The Simpsons."<P ID="signature">______________

Speaking of people named Simpson...

I saw a poster once depicting the mugshot of a certain accused and acquitted double murderer (save the debate as to his guilt for Off the Air, please, thank you) and the caption "TV's #1 Show: The Simpson".) Said accused double murderer sported a hairdo similar to a certain Springfield Elementary 5th grader's and was saying "I didn't do it, man!"

The Simpsons have beaten records hav nt they?

I believe this could be the longest running animated show ever and I am not sure how many seasons The Simpsons were a cartoon short on Tracy Ullman. I think 2.

Does anyone know of any specifics of records for the Simpsons?

If my calculations are correct, here are the ages that each family member would be by now if they actually aged normally:

Homer: 52
Marge: 51
Bart: 27
Lisa: 25
Maggie: 17

Longest running current Prime Time series

The Simpsons is currently the longest-running prime time series on the air, according to today's USA Today.

And, their 400th episode will air in the 2007-08 season, not this year. I misspoke yesterday when I said it would air later this season.

In other cartoon news, "King of the Hill" will return for it's 11th season in January.

Interesting. There are many ways to add up the real ages. If you start from 87, then
Lisa is 27
Bart is 29
Homer is 54
Marge is 53
Maggie is 19

If you go by when the show became a series, its what you say.

Then you can also go by what the show dates them. I think it was from the ep "Lisa's First Word" that the show itself first dated Lisa's birthdate to 1984, thus bart being 2 years older then Lisa would be 1982. That means Lisa was only 5 when the show in reality started, and today Lisa would be 21 going on 22, and bart would be 23 going on 24 now. maggie wouldn't have even been born until about the 4th season, putting her at the nice age of 13/14.

Later shows also dated the simpsons, at later dates. For example, the story about how Lisa got her "saxamaphone" was a flashback ep, which also fieatured Bart starting school. In this show, homer is seen watching Twin Peaks, but that show didn't air until 1990, so at earliest that would place bart's birth to 1985.

I'm sure there are newer ones that place the births in the 90's. Currently they would have to place bart's birth to 1995, and Lisa to 1997.

The Simpsons have been the longest running animated show since 1995 when it passed The Flintstones in years on air and then in 1996 when it surpassed them in episodes.

It has also passed every sitcom in history episode wise except for Ozzie and Harriet's 435 episodes which it could do but not likely. It will not surpass any dramas either(Gunsmoke,Bonanza,Peyton Place).

I know that King Of The Hill surpassed The Flintstones episode wise a couple of years ago. In 2008 or 2009 South Park will do the same thing.

That is exactly the age I was when the series started. Back then it was controversial and a lot of parents weren't letting their kids watch it, but it didn't take too many years for it to become "recommended viewing".

The Simpsons isn't what it used to be, but it is indeed way better than almost everything else on TV. Family Guy and King of the Hill are good too. Fox should sign a peace treaty at "Home" and put a certain show out of its misery, replacing its time slot with King of the Hill. Then, Fox would have two straight hours of animation on Sunday nights.

I predict the show will still be around in 2020.<P ID="signature">______________
